new member here, just brought my 2003 1500 two days ago, first time owning an GMC. retired my old 1989 f150 . I love the 1500 so far, has the v6 in it. i do get an gas type knock or ping noise when starting it after it's warmed up ( not while driving, only on start up), maybe it's the cheap gas i put in it....any idea's?

A ping noise when starting up after a hot soak...that's a new one to me. Usually these things give you the infamous piston slap when cold, which usually goes away after a minute or two.

I wonder if you're hearing the purge valve duty cycling...makes more of a tick than a ping though. Maybe expansion of exhaust/heat shields. Could be a gremlin under the hood...those dudes are tricky.
