The 2500 have the 6.0?

The 6.0 is said to be a signifcantly loud engine, thusly many have had a hard time finding an exhaust they like. Magnaflow's 22" case, Flowmaster 50 series Big Block, and the Spin Tech Truck/RV muffler. All three would have a nice sound under acceleration, yet quiet at cruise speeds

What you pay depends on where you live, what you wan, and who does the work.

I have a 6.0 and when I cut off the muffler, I started it up next to my buddies 5.3 Av with a 40 series FM cut off before the axle, and his was still louder!!! The 6.0 has two pre-cats and two cats, so whoever said this engine is loud does not know this from experience-- I think the complaint is that it has resonance issues, which I still haven't had any problems with. I put a 50 series FM on mine (duel 3" in 3.5" out), I paid 194 from summit shipped. I called a couple muffler shops who would have done any muffler and custom bent tubing for around $300. I went with the one from summit because of the mendral bent tubing, but I'm not real crazy about it... I think it is too quiet! I am getting close to chopping it off and running straight pipes for a while. I wish I would have gone custome, duel original 40 series, either out the back or dumped.

I have a 2000 2500 with the 6.0. I cut off the stock muffler and replaced it with 2 40 series Flowmasters (3"in/2.5"out) and dual 2.5 tailpipes the day I got the truck. I love the way it sounds under acceleration, but it has a lot of resonance at cruising speeds. I paid $350.00 for the mufflers, tailpipes and installation in 2000 at Meineke. I have heard the 50 series have a lot more of a mellow tone and less resonance at cruise. The resonance doesn't bother me that much, it just drones on long trips and it is hard having a conversation with anybody in the back seat. I have been thinking about putting the 40 series on my old truck and trying out a couple of the 50 series Flows or maybe Magnaflows on my Silverado. I must be getting old, I took off the loud mud tires and put on A/T's and now I'm thinking about quieting it down.....Yikes!

2500hd4x,

do you have any sort of crossover before the mufflers? I'm trying to decide wether or not I'm going to bother with one.

Sonicr1- Nope, no crossover at all, the pipe length on the dual tailpipes was matched evenly by the guy at meineke so the backpressure would be the same on both banks supposedly but they didn't even ask about a crossover. I have thought about getting one put in to see if it will cut down on the resonance by evening out the exhaust pulses, but like I said I am about to the point of putting the old 40 series Flows on my 76' and trying something new. 2 Magnaflows maybe or a Delta Flow series Flowmaster. Just waiting till I get headers on the old girl (Read waiting till my wife lets me have some more play money for that ugly old truck  ). The duals rock when you step on it though. Sounds like a IHBA boat launching. VRROOOM! Man, I am gonna go for a drive now......Just got a new tune put in last week and it has really woke up the Heavy Chevy.......
