All you guys in Florida stay safe....looks like mother nature is gonna make you bend over and take one for the team. I moved from Ft.Lauderdale about a month ago, and my wife just moved up Wednesday...just in time.

This hurricane is reminding me of Floyd too much, especially with the size.

If this thing does what Floyd did we might be screwed. Seems most canes I have seen coming at FL's east coast the projection moved further north as it got closer. Exactly what Floyd did. Problem is Floyd was supposed to hit us directly, but it passed us 60 miles offshore. This one is projected south of here..... just enough so that if it does what I fear we will be in trouble. No matter where it goes at this point we will feel it due to its size.

If we do leave the '61 and the '94 are the only things staying. The 61 isnt worth much except for sentiment and the 94 is fully covered.

I'm in north central Florida and hoping nothing gets detroyed to bad. I'm hoping it rains a lot though bring the lakes up. It will be interesting to see what happens in less than 24hours.

So the Jacksonville area isn't under teh evac order I guess? What's the northernmost city that falls under the evacuation orders?

Yeah that's a real monster. Been watching the news. You guys take care down there.

Definitely stay safe!!!

I've got a question for the Florida folks...do most people down there stay prepared for something like this? Stuff like extra food, water and plywood for the windows? It always amazes me how the news shows long lines of people stocking up on food and water and then some smuck reporter announcing they're all out of plywood at the lumber stores.

You'd think that with the regularity of these storms, most people would be prepared. But you can never tell from the media if the lines are all over town or if they're just showing the 10% of the population that were born idiots and will always be idiots.

Just curious....

As of lastnight they were considering an evac order for Flagler county which is 45 miles south of here.

Very few people stay prepared. I have even heard people say, "I can't believe we are getting a hurricane". What they obviosuly dont understand is that, um well... THIS IS FLORIDA. Oh well, we are ready to stay or go so we will be ok.

I'd say most people don't stock up for a hurricane and by now everyones y2k stash of food is gone so they do hit up the hardware stores. Some people go over board and others do nothing. Hopefully it will go easy on us.

Gas stations, mostly in south Fl, are running dry on gas. I know of one empty station and one with only 93 within 5 minutes of me. People are running out of gas on the interstate. The closest evac to us is a voluntary mobile home evacuation in St. Johns county. St Johns co is about 250 yards from my back fence. Winds are steady at 18mph here now, projected to be upto 65 Sunday. In that pic I posted is actually Interstate 95. It is surprisingly light IMO.

Yeah gas stations are out of gas bad because Florida had the .08 per gallon gas tax off for August so the 31st everyone filled up and now everyone else is filling up again so most of the places around here Bradford and Clay counties are out of gas. I still have quite a bit of stuff that can blow around so I gotta get that secured. I'll keep ya posted if the power is still on anyway.

Currently the wind is blowing and it is raining. Couple of limbs in the front yard, 1 good sized limb down on the house.
