Amber DRL'S

I noticed this morning driving in some nasty fog that cars with amber DRL's were easier to see coming than cars with their lights of white drls on.

Just thought id share this observation

Have you guys been able to re-wire the the parking lights for the DRL's rather than using the headlights?  I just use the 'parking brake' trick but I'm interested if you've done something differently. :)

Thanks,

Travis

I changed my DRL bulbs to Amber on my Silverado.  I purchased 4157NAK lamps at Autozone and installed.  Look's different.  I think GM should have done this in the first place.

Doesn't the '97 Tahoes use the same bulb for DRL & lowbeam?

I had a '98 Tahoe, but can't remember.  My HD has even replaced my memories....

Oh well, tgt, I understand your desire to "rewire" your DRLs to grap the parking lights instead of the lowbeams...I just haven't done it...

You can also try posting over at

Bob Prim has a wealth of information about the wiring of the C-K body style as well as the Silverado/Sierra style.

I don't know how you'd change out the bulbs when it DOES use the same bulbs as the headlights.  Am I missing something here?

tgt-

I believe that only the new style trucks (99-newer) have separate lights for DRL's, the old style trucks use the low beam headlights for DRL's.  I got a 2002 and just put in the amber bulbs like everyone is talking about but my dad's older tahoe does not have separate lights to do this.

OK. I'm going crazy here! I've been all over looking for these amber DRLs and NOBODY has them. I can't even find them online anywhere! Somebody tell me where I can get them, PLEASE!

I've been to NAPA, and they don't even have a listing on anything like a 4157 bulb. The "teenager" behind the counter at Discount Auto Parts just looked at me weird when I told him what they were for. And the guys at Pep Boys didn't have a clue either. Is there some secret club you have to join to find these darn things? There aren't anymore parts houses in my area, except the local "mom & pop" type places, and they don't have them either.

SOMEBODY HELP! Give me a link to a web site that carries these things!

Given the season and the hours of my commutes, my DRLs are seldom on anyway!  But I will go looking for amber ones after Christmas.

Coming into my neighborhood tonight, I tried the technique of pushing the dome override a couple times to disable the autoheadlights.  I was able to drive with the parking and fogs on.  I'll have to try that on some really foggy morning.  Now, if I can figure out how to aim the fog lamps and replace the bulbs with yellow ones...

I GIVE UP!

I just searched the web again, trying to find these bulbs. Sylvania's own web site DOES NOT even list them!!!!

Sylvania 4157 NALL (some of you have called them 4157 NAK). Which is it? I can't find either ANYWHERE!

Closest thing I can find is a 3157 NA which is the turn signal bulb (dual filament).

WTF? Am I missing something here?
