New tranny?

I have a 2001 2500 HD 6.0 with the Allison in it. The truck has 59K on it and has been running fine. The other day I was in it and the check engine light come on and the truck wouldn't shift out of first gear after I pulled out from the red light. Any one else had this problem? I just bought another 01 with the 8.1 in it. Guy I bought it from gave me the papers where he put a new tranny in it @ 60K. Could this mean my other 01 is due for it's new one? How much is this gonna cost me?

hutmoco, the 6.0 *(DOESNT)* come with the allison. to comfirm that, get under the truck and look at the tranny fluid pan, the pan will have allison engraved in big letters on that. some believe the 6.0 isnt powerful enought to twist and churn the allison. i dont even know if you can add an allison or not the 6.0. id imagine there would be a lot of computer issues and engine issues to work through. most likely you have GM's base automatic for the 6.0. take it to the dealer to diagnose your problem.

Well at least it would be cheaper if it don't have it. I never bothered to look myself. I just assumed it had the same tranny as my 8.1 and DuraMax. Thanks for info.

Yep, NO 6.0's came with the Allison tranny. There was some problems with the very first Allson's, but it was computer related, not parts. You have the 4L80E if you have an auto and 6.0. Chris

OK, boy do I feel like an idiot. I DO have the allison tranny and the truck has the 8.1 in it. So, now that all that is confirmed, what now? Besides I need to sell some vehicles, they are all starting to run together.

havent heard too many serious troubles with the ally. i know there are specific allison repair shops and not too many dealers that service them. try 1-877-512-8726, this is an allison repair shop.

Mine just did the same thing on 10-23-04 took it back to the dealer and they found a wire connector came lose in the tranny oil pan and put the tranny in "Limp mode" 1st gear only. when it did it I pulled off the side of the road turned the truck off then restarted about 1 min later and the truck shifted fine but the s.e.s light was still on.
