RAM Air WOW!!!

I purchased a pro cold exhaust intake which mounts a cone air filter under a plate next to front fender. Took it off to check filter and it was caked with dirt sand and pine needles, I was quite shocked by the amount of dirt. So took it off and put factory airbox back in. I drilled a 3 inch hole in center of air box and in the plate below. Then took some 3 inch flex pipe and routed it down to the fog light holes. Took a piece of 3 inch white pvc and heated with a torch and created an oval bell end. Hooked the pieces together and place a screen over the pipe to keep most bugs and leaves out. I also have a K&N filter installed.

All I can say is man what a difference. I noticed a huge seat of the pants increase. I can tell the truck breathes much easier. It accerlerates much more quickly and the torque increase is especially noticeable when shifting from 2-3.

This is by far the biggest increase in Hp I have noticed from all the mods I have done over the years. (gibson cat back exhaust suburban, K&N intake in suburban, Pro cold intake in truck.

Try behind the tow hooks. You don't have to remove them, but that would give you a better flow. Mine's just open to the bottom of the mount plate under the airbox, I haven't routed the ram air hose yet. Maybe this weekend.

I should have mentioned, I put my scoop at the tow hook opening.

I would say the Volant scoop could be made to work with the stock box with a little work.

But, Deaf Electrician...you said in your original post.....

"I purchased a pro cold exhaust intake which mounts a cone air filter under a plate next to front fender."

What's an EXHAUST INTAKE???

Sorry guys but I don't know how to post pictures. A pro cold exhaust, is a brand name for an aftermarket intake just like a K&N style. It has a 90 degree steel elbow that attaches to the existing inlet tube at the MAF and then goes down to the front fender where a cone filter attaches. Allowing only cold air to come in. The problem was too much dirt and mud was getting on the filter, so I built my own ram air.

I would be happy to answer any questions on construction, and no I don't have fog lights.

I also changed my inlet hose after the MAF. I took the existing black plastic intake off and used a saw to cut all the extra side crap off leaving me with just the round part. Then I took some rubber sheets I had and wrapped these around the holes that were left. Then wrapped the whole thing in duct tape and painted it black. So now there it a straight shot to the throttle body without the extra sound chambers.

My question is what happens when you go through mud and water.. wont the "ram air" suck it right in the filter?

That's what's keeping me from finishing my setup. I've got a 3" hole through the bottom of the airbox with a flange for connecting a tube to run to the fog light hole, but wonder how much crap I'm going to inhale.

Don't worry about it! I've been running my intake at the tow hook opening now for over a year, all through last winter. I still only need to clean the K&N twice a year. I left the larger stock opening in the air box too, so even if the tow hook went under water, it wouldn't suck water.
