I used to do just fine with the 87, but since my recent upgrades I've switched to Sonoco 94 mostly, with some other 93's thrown in there from time to time. My truck really seems to respond to it.

Yes, sunoco 94.

Like DMAX Daddy said, I have to because of the extra timing

in my Westers 94 hot tune. :loser:(more power) :D

With out a tune i don't think it makes that much of a difference.

Just go high enough to stop pinging. :banghead:

Where do you live? If you run stock and live in high elevations run 87 octane. I used to live in the CO mountains and I found out the hard way. When I would go over Vail pass I would get the CES light everytime. I was running the higher octane stuff. Come to find out I was fouling EGR valves with the higher octane fuel. After I switched to 87 it never happened again. I also did not notice any performance loss either. This advice came from every mechanic I talked to in CO. Apparently they see it all of the time.

I forgot to mention the truck was a 99 Silv with the 5.3L.

I run 87 in my '99 (OBS) w/5.7 and get on the average of 15-16 city/hgwy. Throw a little HO in there on occasion and honestly can't tell a difference in performance or mileage.

Not that much more, lets see, $.20 X 34Gallons = $6.80 per tank

That is absolutely interesting. I passed that along to my fiancee. She is a Lab Tech and her only job is to test Gasoline, Jet Fuel, Race Fuel and Rocket Fuel. She is perplexed as to why and advised me higher Octane Fuels burn at higher temperatures. She mentioned possibly the additives and conditioners added to the fuel up North may be different than down here and they may be adding more in High Octane fuels there and may be the increase of additives is fouling out the EGR. What brands are commonly available? She said if it was Valero or something like that, there are other reasons she can't get into legally.

As a petroleum engineer I can guarantee you using anything but 87 and you're pissing money away, unless you have retuned it as some have. This is not my opinion, but FACT. Anyone saying otherwise is ignorant. You will see absolutely NO performance improvement. This is an old argument often fought by the uniformed.

I used to work for Unocal 76 and our marketing guys played on peoples ignorance by advertising increased performance and gas mileage with higher octane fuel. They knew as did the engineers it was bulls**t. Well, so did a lot of other educated people and they took the company to court for false advertising. Slam dunk case. We lost and paid through the ass for the deceit. This was about 12 - 15 years ago.

Notice how NO gasoline marketer currently advertises these false claims. There's a reason. Believe me, if there was even a fractional increase they would play it for all it's worth.

Don't be a fool; spend your money on something else. Those guys who run an "occasional" tankful are only occasionally throwing their money away.

What you said is practically the same thing the rest of her laboratory said. With a few exceptions where the engine pings alot. Thanks.
