Fuel used is off on 2005

Hi --

I've kept fairly detailed records when I refuel and have noticed that the fuel used is consistently off by several percent. It always undershoots by 3-4%. This means the computer says I've consumed less fuel than I actually have. This, of course, is distinctly different from having a value that both undershoots and overshoots.

I asked the dealer to re-calibrate. I got a total BS response which I interpret as: cannot be done or do not want to conduct research. Interestingly, the MPG value shown is consistently only 0.1% off (either way). This tells me they have the correct information available. After all, if they are this correct with MPG, they could easily compute the fuel used by dividing (current_MI_reading - MI_reading_at_MPG_reset) with MPG.

What is your experience with MPG and Fuel used shown on your computer?

I bought my 2005 off the lot. If I had ordered it I never would have ordered the DIC steering wheel buttons. It came with the truck, which I think I got a hell of a deal on. With only 600 miles on the truck I keep checking the fuel mileage. I hope it is accurate but if not I'm not going to worry about it. As for the other stuff(fuel used etc.) I'm not concerned.

That DIC computer is not exactly a precision instrument, and wasn't meant to be.

Mine (52,000 miles) consistently is about 5% ahead (for example, will show 21 gallons consumed, but I can only pump 20 gallons).

Way low on list of stuff to worry about.

It just loves to pull.
