Greasing U-joints

Ok, the U-joints on my 99 were replaced by a local shop here. They now have fittings, however both are pretty difficult to get to. I bought an adapter for the gun similar to this earlier:

Now of course due to my great manual dexterity, I had my hand shaking all over the place and of course bent the needle portion. Now are you supposed to try to get the needle point into the hole in the top of the zerk(if there is one?) or is there another way? I tried to push it into the top of the zerk and it bent again and broke. I was able to do the front zerk with the standard gun nozzle, but the back I can't get at at all. Any thoughts/suggestions?

That needle is not for zerks. Your regular end should be all you need. Did you try to rotate the shaft to different positions?

As best I could with her sitting on the rubber. I may try her in the air tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

You should have put in the non greasable joints in. GM uses them because there stronger and last just as long or longer than the zerk type.

Yea thats why mine were toast at less than 50K miles

 

The greasble ones are a PITA to grease I found an adapter (my dad got it for me). Works alright as long as the fitting is not obstructed.

 

Also the greasable ones I have are probably the best (spicer).

Well the General did 1 of them before for me. I just ended up at the local shop the last time and they replaced them with these greasable ones. One of our mechanics at work gave me this adaptor device today, It apparently has a fitting on the end that goes into the nozzle, then the other end is all metal and is supposed to be pressed against the indentation in the zerk. We'll see how this goes.
