Magnaflow Cat-back Installed on 6L

I finally got around to changing out my factory muffler. The stock system was 2.75" OD pipe dual to the muffler and single 2.75" OD tail pipe. I replaced in with a Magnaflow 15782 . It is a dual 3" OD inlet with a single 4" OD outlet SS muffler that is 5 x 11 x 22" with a side exit tail pipe and SS tip. This cat-back is quite a bit lighter than the stock system which is a good deal and the quality is excellent. The muffler and tip are polished stainless steel (very bling) and the tail pipe is mandrel bent stainless that is not polished. That 4" tail pipe is really impressive looking as well with that polished tip sticking out the side.

I installed the system myself and it was really very easy to do. Cut the old muffler off with a saws-all and hauled it out in one piece. The new muffler fit right up into place with no fuss. The inlets are a little wider apart than the stock system so it takes a bit to fit them with some short spacer pipes to fill the gap between the stock 2.75" pipe and the 3" inlets. With a bit of wiggling and figuring out that the whole muffler and tail pipe could be hauled forward an 1" or so it all lined up perfectly. Clamp it together and off to the garage to get the spacer pipes welded to the stock pipes and the job was done. :D

After driving with it for a couple of weeks and after putting a tank of gas through it the Magnaflow is really starting to wake up. There is a great SOTP improvement right through the entire power band. I was worried that it would not do a thing for performance but so far I am very pleased. If I can get some G-Tech results for it, when it warms up a little, I will let you know. I have seen dyno results of about 10-15 rwhp for this system. :)

As you know the 6.0L is a hard engine to keep quiet and I was soon to find that out. It sounds great! There is a little drone around 1500-1900 rpm when cruising around town but no where else. Now that I have had a little time to get used to it I like it and if I find it a bit too much I just downshift to bring the revs up to 2000. This makes the truck soooooo much more responsive as well. My truck is above 2000 at normal cruising speed so that is not a problem. I can still hear the exhaust but it is not intrusive. Under acceleration and at WOT the Magnaflow comes into its own and kind of makes you want to punch it all the time just to hear it. :D The system is a little loud in stop and go traffic but I like it once I got over being a little embarrassed by it.

I am really happy with this Magnaflow and if you are considering a cat-back I think that you should give Magnaflow a serious look. I am certainly enjoying mine and I think it makes some real HP as well. It makes me want to think up reasons to go take my truck for a drive.
