Best way to remove a sticker from paint??

Well like an idiot, I forgot to ensure that the dealer did NOT affix any stickers or crap to my 05 crew cab. None the less, there is a small dealer sticker just above the "Sierra" on the tailgate.

What is the safest way for me to remove this without any damage to the paint. I have a heat gun, but have never tried this type of procedure and am a little leary.

Any help or suggestions for the actual technique of what to do, would be great, as are any supplies (other than the heat gun) that I may require, and how to get rid of any gooey glue residue that will likely be left behind.

Thx

A heat gun may bubble the paint. I just used the girlfriend's blowdryer on high heat. Worked like a charm. Boy, I am going to take a rash of s%^t for mentioning hair dryer on this forum! Good luck.

The key is to pull it real slow and usually the glue will stay stuck to the emblem and not the truck. If you have any glue left over, use goo-gone to remove it.

A heat gun will get to temperatures much hotter than a typical blow dryer. Park so the tailgate is facing the sun, heat it gently for about 5 minutes to let it heat soak and start with a corner and pull slowly. I took the dealer badge off my truck without adding any extra heat and it came off very nicely.

I removed all the badging, pin stripes, stickers and body side moulding from my HD with a blowdryer. Heat gun will get the sticker too hot and actually make it harder to pull off.

The easiest I've ever done it is letting the truck sit in the sun/heat for awhile but that's kinda tough to do in March :happysad:

Hairdryer and fingernails are the way to go.

I have my dealer well trained not to put stickers on my new cars :happysad:

Just use your fingernails to peel up a corner and pull it off. Thats how I got my 4X4s off so I could put my Z71s on :fume: I think I have the only Z71 2500HD :chevy:

I used some silcone spray like you buy in the can at Pep Boys or any auto parts store. It sofens up the glue and with a little fingernail work it should give in. the silcone won't hurt the paint or anything else. I remove stickers all the time from wood and metal surfaces and you'll be suprised how well it works.. then lube your window track and locks up while your there! :happysad:

Awesome guys, thx for the advice. Glad to know that the heat gun will be too hot, so I will have to break out the hairdryer.

Cant really leave it in the sun, cuz it may be snowing come saturday. But I will give it a try on the weekend (only time I will have)

Thx again

It sounds like the sticker on a tailgate is hard to remove than the tailgate itself - wish i had know that before mine was stolen and is taking GMC 3 weeks to replace - maybe if they were less concerned with stickers and more concerned with providing good service ..... ah well
