Info for New 6-Speed Allison and DMax

Hi guys, thought I would pass this info along, not sure how much everyone already knows...I think there was a PDF a week ago, some of this is in there too, but the DMax has been uprated for next year...but here is what is straight from the plant where my brother works...let me know if you ahve any additional questions, later, :D:nopity::wtf:

I am not sure what you guys know or do not know...but here is what he gave me... :fume:

6.6 L Duramax Diesel engine to be uprated to ~360 hp and ~620 ft lb

torque. In addition, it's supposed to be quieter yet (already the quietest

diesel in the industry).

Allison will indeed be uprated to handle engine increases:

1) 6 Speed Gear Set - Replace 5 speed gear set for greater gear ratio opportunities

2) New helical gear design - reduced gear noise in low and 6th range.

3) Reduced Oil Pump Noise

4) New Range Select Mode - added to column shift lever, allows

driver to use +/- button to manually select desired gear range. Can use

simultaneously with Cruise Control and Tow/Haul modes.

5) Enhance Electronic Controls - More precise, efficient, faster,

smoother, fully automatic shifts. Enhances Grade Braking, Tow/Haul modes

as well as the Adaptive Shift Controls.

6) Heater Performance Mode - In diesel powered truck the Allison

Transmission has a feature to shorten engine and cab warm-up times by

changing, under cold conditions, the part throttle up shift points to increase engine speed.

7) Low Traction Mode - In diesel powered trucks, in low traction conditions when transmission is put in 2nd range while at a stop, the transmission will limit torque to wheels if it senses wheel slip.

8) Cold Operation - Transmission will inhibit certain operations, in very cold conditions, to protect itself against damage. Normal operation will occur when transmission oil reaches proper temperature.

Those are sweet numbers. I was wondering what hp/tq numbers the upgrade was going to be. I knew the Cummins was goin to up their numbers in 06 or 07 as well, and also put in a Mercedes Benz 6 speed auto. Competion is good for all the manufactures.

What year is this new Duramax comeing?

Also anyone here of what the numbers of the completly new Powerjoke was going to be?

'06 Model year for both six speed and DMax...my bro told me they are making test runs now with the new transmission, should go into production in the summer...Dmax has also be told to increase plant capacity...seems they are gaining ground on everyone else...cool :D later, :fume::nopity::wtf:

Any idea if the GVW or GCWR are going up at all? With those numbers it should increase at least a little.

It all sounds great, but people complain about the price of the diesel option already. Wonder what the price increase will be.

That is a good question...I think we can assume those will rise along with the HP/torque. As far as price, not sure, my brother may know (he knows exaclty how much the transmission costs to build) but I think GM headquarters would control any price increase entirely...but I will ask, later, :D:nopity::wtf:

even though its nice to have a quiet diesel, i do kinda like the noise that they make while ideling

Its always nice to be able to drown out that lawn mower sound that those ricer's make sitting next to you at a light, by the sound of REAL POWER.

side note why do they like to make there cars sound like a lawn mower?

lol, its actually kinda funny b/c you hear it coming and your like holy cow he must be flying!! but then he comes around the corner doin like 30 and your like WTF?? i think its funny, them trying to make them ricers go fast with that fart can, they think it gives them horsepower, but it doesnt because they have no back pressure (isnt that right? i dont wanna make myself look like an idiot) lol

Also, why put a rear wing on a FWD car? :(

A wing has nothing to do with which wheels drive the car. It's supposed to create more downforce at high speed to make the car more stable when all that air rushing under the car is trying to lift it.

I wonder if there would be any way to retrofit a new 2006 Allison into my '05... The green eyed monster lurks in the shadows... Those features like "manumatic" shifting and 6 gears look mighty enticing!!

It's because their lawn mowers sound like weed wackers.
