Dex-Cool Beleive it or not!!

I had been having problems with my low coolant light coming on and had the coolant smell in the cab. I got ticked off with having to add coolant all the time so I thought that I would do a cooling system flush and refill, it has been about 90 days since I did that and my coolant light came on only one time and that was the next day when I needed to top off the tank. So if anyone is having problems losing coolant they may want to try this.

So, did you go back with Dexcool or something else?

Yes I used dexcool.

Intake gaskets?

That was a thought as to why I was losing coolant. But after the flush and refill to have only added about 2 cups the next day after doing the work I would say that the gaskets are not a problem.

Classic GM DeathCool and intake manifold malady.

 

Well documented over at the Suburban forum and on my buddies Suburban/GM Truck info site at: #1 Son's place (andy lim) Look in the sections for intake manifold and coolant.

 

Also could be the heater hose quick connects. They rot out, but a 99 should have the "new" OEM fittings from the factory.

 

Another is the heater valve on the passenger side hose.
