Replacing factory Bose sub

So i've been going through some of the old strands and for starters, I didn't even know that there was a factory sub in my truck(2004 Silverado Ext. Cab). I've been planning on buying a JL stealthbox that fits right in the console but that thing costs like 700 including install. So I decided to buy the MTX thunderform and put two tens under the backseat. It's way cheaper. But now I just came across a strand about a guy replaced his factory Bose sub with a JL audio sub. This is crazy! Has anyone else done this? Any success? Any failures? This seems pretty risky! I thought JL had specific dimensions to enclose their speakers!!!

I'm interested in this as well. Hey, is there any way to "calibrate" the Bose Non-Lux setup for a stronger bass? The low end pretty much blows in my Suburban.

spend money. If you are planning to STUFF something in the console, save your money. I have a dual 10" enclosure behind the CC seat, about as good as it gets, $900.

I got a JL stealthbox for my 2000 x-cab, the thing was sick....I sounded great! Now I just got a 05 Crew cab, still trying to find a box for it... any ideas?

Ok, add another one to the mix. I have an 04 chevy ext with the Bose system too. I also didn't realize that it had a sub. Does it really? It is so weak in the base I find it hard to believe it has a sub. Where in the truck is the sub? I am also very interested in adding a better (I guess) sub than the one it has(?). Hope someone out there has experience to share on this.

It's in the center console, if you have one. Next to your right knee. No center console=no sub. It is a 6.5" ported enclosure that is, as you say, junk.
