i just saw the new dodge power wagon

Recommended Posts

i saw the NEW DODGE RAM POWER WAGON, oh my god!!! i HATE HATE HATE to

say it, but this truck is INCREDIBLE. it is the meanest truck i think i have ever seen. in stock form it is LIFTED WITH BFG MUD TERRAINS. i am going to wait to

see what gm does with the new silverado, but if it is not beefier and meanier, i am

going to look at this new power wagon, as a new truck. the rims on the power wagon are really mean, it comes standard with a winch on the front. wait, until you see this thing.

I looked at one at the local dealship this last weekend.

It is a pretty cool truck, lots of cool extras on it.

I guy that works with me is going to buy at the end of the year.

When you looked at it, did you notice the sway bar disconnect in the front for more articulation, pretty cool idea. :)

I stopped by and checked it out. Its packed with great off road items. I wish that they offered it with the Cummins. Not that it means anything but the sales dork told me that the Colorado division of wildlife had ordered some as patrol trucks.

I hope the general will realize that some trucks really do leave the pavement and counter with something at least as good.

If they would just put a good motor in it (like the V10) they would really have something. The cummins would be to heavy for serious offroad work and would act like a boat anchor in front in deep mud or sand and would not have the wide RPM range that is desirable in a off road machine. I have drive dodges in the past with V10 and sticks and they were awesome I must say with the power band they had. The Hemi just does not cut it as it lacks the torque and lower RPMs to make the truck dance.

The diesels work nice on steep rocky trails at high altitude. They really let you crawl with out any noticeable loss of power due to altitude. But they are heavy. I think they should at least give you the choice of motors.

Im just curious with all the extras that they have put on it, if it would be cheaper to just by a regular Ram, and just add your extras.

My thoughts exactly.. then you would have all the necessities you really need. Im not completly familar with the package but it appears to start at around 38g?... the only real pricey component would be the lockers.

Oil burner are not bad a fixed RPMs or in narrow RPM ranges but do not have the abilty to go from 1000 to 4500 rpm or more in a heart beat and cover a wide range of speeds in one gear plus you are lugging extra 500 to 600 lbs up those hills and beside I have been up pikes pike 3 times in my 89 burb with a 350 and alway found the engine up to the task and at that altitude and oil burner is realy weak at low RPMs until the boost builds some where as a gas engine responds about the same part throttle but make less peak and WOT power.

Well the one that I had seen at the Dealership stickered at about $42,000

As far as buying a regular ram and adding the features, I don't think that it would be cheaper.

Those lockers are real expensive, so is the sway bar disconnect.

I think that it has a different tranfer case also.

I don't even think that you could get those lockers, tranfer case or the sway bar disconnect for a regular ram yet.

It basically has the same setup as the Jeep Rubicon.

I believe they use a electo locking gear based LSD diff like the Jeep does too. A nice setup and I wish GM offered something like it too in OEM P/U's as they are very smooth operating units with no chatters and nothing to really wear out either.

I must say, the Jeep Rubicon was the most intelligent thing any Manufacturer has done in DECADES and carrying a similar package over into the full size truck market is almost as smart. If only GM and Furd would catch on.....

There are still a few people out here who use trucks like truck, not just mall cruisers! :)

Agree with Wyram 100%. A 5.7L high-revving engine in a 3/4 pickup with a bunch of extra (heavy) off-road stuff spells gutless.

They had to put 4.56s on the thing just to get it to climb and every magazine I've read said the whole concept was awesome but they needed more power than the Hemi can provide.

And a diesel ain't the answer. The power is there, but the last thing you need in an offoroad rig is and extra 500lbs of deadweigh over the front axle. That's why you never see any of those hardcore rock rigs using diesels. Most are large block gas engines or tuned small blocks. Even larger V6's in some of the smaller ones.

Ford or GM will get it right. A similar truck with a Ford 6.8L V10 with 4.30s or a GM 8.1L and 4.10s would do the trick.

I just dont see the purpose.. yeah sure its neat, but I have no intention on taking a 40,000 truck out and beat it...

I bought my 05' to take me to work, pull a trailer when needed, get me unstuck when im stuck, pull people out if they are stuck. I pull hay wagons out of the field, it can go down loggin roads while hunting (and not get scratched to hell because its 10 ft tall) and in the end... I have a nice looking truck that is fun to drive and practical

Ive done my fair share of four-wheeling and bigger ISN'T better... bigger means more stuck! IF you TRUELY need that type of ride for a daily driver thats fine but Im fairly certain that 90% of the people out there dont need it.... AND IF, you have the money to blow and want to beat a 40g ride... more power to ya... but there are alot neater/better things out there than any manufacturer will put on for ya..

If you doubt my experience.. have a look-see An old website of mine

im no pro, but we have destroyed our fair share of vehicles

Maybe Ill try posting some of my 79 GMC 4wheelin photos if have time... out of all things me and my buddy constructed.. the samari did the best.. and its the smallest

I agree.. the diesel wouldn't be a good choice... too much torque is a bad thing and so is a short power band

why do people buy corvettes, vipers, ect., do you think they are out

racing at daytona. maybe some, but not 95% of them. why do you

mod your truck, lift your truck, custom paint your truck, ect.. because

YOU CAN. it doesn't mean you have to beat the crap out of it, or even

take it off road if you don't want to. my point about the dodge was that

I personaly cannot stand a STOCK chevy truck. NOW, once the truck

has been modded, and preferably lifted, bigger tires added, i love them.

my point about the power wagon was that ALL THE MODDING IS ALREADY

DONE FOR YOU. the lift, the wheels, the tires, the suspension, ect, ect. the price

maybe $40,000, but don't you think you are going to get a good bit off msrp,

just like on a $38,000 chevy truck. when i buy a chevy truck, i have to add

in for a lift kit, tires, wheels, ect,ect,ect.. what do you think all that adds

to the cost, ALOT. AND YES, being the biggest or baddest may be a state

of mind in the truck world, but it is FUN. why try to have a meaner truck than

the next guy, because you can. :jester::chevy:
