1989 Jeep Cherokee Laredo: Inline 4.0l 6 cylinder, auto, 4x4. Pros: Great Truck when it was running. Plenty of power to push the jeep around, and just a fun little SUV to drive. Cons: Big ouch if it had to go to the repair shop. These things were killer on brakes and fuel injectors. Sold when the tranny cooler line rubbed a hole thanks to a crappy routing from the factory. Dumped half the tranny fluid in about 2 miles. ran for a while longer, but had some slipping issues.

1997 Dodge Dakota CC SLT: Replaced the Jeep. 3.9l auto, 2x4. Pros: Perfect size for the two of us and the dog. Worked good for towing the popup. Nice truck for the price. Cons: Gas Pig, could have used a little more power. Sold due to planned increae in family size, and getting a second BIG dog.

2002 Suburban LS: 5.3l FFV, 2x4. Pros: Very nice truck. Plenty of power for my needs. Pulls the popup with no issues. Better fuel economy than the Dakota. Fits the dogs, and the soon to be enlarged family nicely. Cons: The freaking audio system has been in three times under warranty. HU, Door Speakers (2x). Fuel economy could be a little better (Westers time!?!?!?)

Prior to the trucks, and during, we have also owned a series of cars. So far, GM is winning the trucks for like ability, and Chrysler is winning in the cars.

1972 Chevy Suburban- High school project truck that I still have. It always seems like there is something is going out or causing a problem, but the best thing about it is that it is so simple to repair or replace everything on that truck.

1995 Chevy Silverado C1500 x-cab sb. Great truck, I drove it through high school, and sold it to purchase an Impala SS

1974 GMC C2500 Camper Special w/454, nice truck, ended up parting it out

1998 Chevy S-10 RCSB, 2.2L auto was very slow. Little truck with even smaller interior. Truck was broken into twice and had the drivers glass broken and the CD player stolen

2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 CCSB, Current daily driver...nice truck so far.

Have not had many... I tend to keep my trucks too long I guess...

1977 Chevy Silverado Long bed... Great truck. 388,000 miles when it finally droped a valve and needed a new motor. Recieved it from my father in law right after I got married with 220Kon the clock. He is now driving it again at this time... out on the farm...

1991 Chevy 1500 Suburban, great truck. Went threw 3 trannies in 225000 mile tho...

2002 Chevy ECSB Z71. Daily driver. Love it.

2004 Chevy Z71 Tahoe. Wife's daily driver. Great so far...

1989 Jeep Cherokee Sport (2 door) 4.0L inline 6, 5-speed a torque monster and very trail worthy vehicle, the best 4X4 I ever drove, never got me stuck once, never left me stranded, had 200,000 miles when I got rid of her and still running strong.

1989 Jeep Wrangler 4.3L carbed inline 6, 5-speed, also a torque monster and 2nd best 4X4 I've ever driven, had 189,000 miles on her when I sold her because I got tired of dealing with the carb issues and oil leaks, only left me stranded once when the alternator crapped out at 180,000 miles.

1992 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L V-6 130,000 miles auto tranny, I have no doubt that the thing would have made it to 200,000 miles but I was tired of paying for the repairs and watching the rust form. New Transfer case, never could get it aligned properly, always pulled to the right. The engine was reliable, its just everything else around it that had problems. The room of the Explorer was great... Always wanted to get one and decal/paint it to look like the Explorers used in "Jurassic Park" Wanted to do that to a Wrangler as well...

And now my present truck,

1999 Silverado 9x,xxx miles 5.3L Ext Cab short bed, I always loved the GM Trucks and fell in love with the new design in 99 until they screwed up the taillights and headlights in 2003 on the Silverado, Pros: great looking truck, decent engine, comfortable inside CONS: <sigh> too many I am afraid, slip yoke, steering wheel grinding noise, dash lights burning out that are not replacable,

Transfer case is leaking fluid somewhere and there is no damage to it, fuel gage problems, not very easy to get to all the grease zerks, Stupid bozos at GM designed the key chain so that the panic button can be pressed way to easily, underhood light not working, too computerized and doesn't have that "Solid Genuine reliable long lasting" feeling to it that the older Chevys have.

Heres my list in order of ownership:

'83 S10 4X4 Reg.cab.short-bed,The 2.8-V6 had NO power and couldn't get out of its own way!

'91 S10 4X4 Reg.cab.short-bed,My first NEW truck! I special ordered it and waited almost 5 months for it! The 4.3-V6 was great, plently of power (compared to the 2.8 I just got rid of!) and I loved the digital dash I ordered with it,Its the only GM product I've driven/owned where the gas gauge was correct! I Also loved the Bilstein shocks as part of the ZM6 off-road package.

'93 K1500 Reg.cab.short-bed Z71,350-Auto.trans.My first full-size! Loved it,but hated the color...White,I will never own another white truck...EVER!

'94 S10 Reg.cab.short-bed "ZR2" (special ordered)Factory 31" BFG's,200-horse V6,3.73's,Bilsteins,..whats not to like? Just not enough room for my NASCAR trips that I starting making in '94,which led me to all my future trucks... Full-size,ext.cabs.

'94 K1500 Ext.cab.short-bed Z71,350-Auto.trans.Perfect traveling truck for my trips,lotsa' room inside!

'97 K1500 Ext.cab.short-bed Z71,(special ordered)350-Auto.trans.Nice bump in power thanks to the "Vortec" 350,Loved the "F44" H.D. Chassis Pkg.,And better access to the back seat thanks to the 3rd door,Why didn't someone think of that sooner? And I still think the frames on these 1/2 ton trucks were stronger than the ones on todays 1/2 tons.

'99 K1500 Ext.cab.short-bed Z71,4.8-V8,Auto.trans.Unbelivably better from my '97,The power!.It seemed a little smaller up front though,I think it was because of the console coming down from the dash to meet the center console, which is still a problem today. Why no 4th door always bothered me  GM said it would have delayed production on these trucks and they didn't want to wait any longer to bring them to market,Why no Bilsteins anymore?

'04 K1500 Ext.cab.short-bed Z71,5.3-V8,Auto.trans.Love the On-Star and XM,and, yippee a 4th door, how nice! What a disappointment though that GM took a lot of stuff out...Underhood light, glovebox light, lights under the dash, full overhead console,no pwr.pass.seat w/o leather,no lumber adjustment w/o leather (My back loves that! :tear: )And whos idea was it not to put mouldings on the bed?

1978 - Chevy Silverado C1500 - 350cid - stolen in 1989 - great truck

1990 - Ford F150 X-cab 4x4 - Did the lift thing with this truck - went through 3 trans and sold it when it started having oil-blowback (cleaned about a pint out of the air box) -- never own a Ford again.

2000 - Tahoe - good running vehicle - just not a truck

2004 - GMC 2500HD CC 4x4 - absolutely love this truck.

continuing the trend....here is my list of vehicles. i ll start with the cars then go to the trucks.

1995 Chevy Camaro 3.4L V6 5 speed. PROS My first car was a camaro. sure, it was a V6 but was a fourth gen. Purple Pearl Metallic really shined when waxed. Got close to 32 mpg on the highway. Nice to throw the five speed around. CONS No power whatsoever. 160hp i think. I can remember being beaten by Eclipses and GTIs..Not very good in the rain or snow (duh  ). Hit a patch of black ice and rolled it twice in a ditch. Goner.

1996 Chevy Camaro Z28/SS. PROS Bright Red and T Tops. Mods started two weeks after i got it. Now has a Lunati 383 kit and all the bells and whistles. Still have this car today. Hauls AZZZZ! CONS Bright Red attracts cops. 120 mph feels like 70. insurance. premium gas and gas mileage.

1973 VW Super Beetle. Bought this beater so i wouldnt have to drvie my Z. PROS this car was older than i was..lol good gas mileage. Made it across country in the winter time. Heater worked. CONS so light, got thrown around out on the highway by just about everything. Gas gauge never worked. Coulnt get much past 65 mph foot to the floor. Constant vlv adjusting.

1987Pontiac Grand Prix. First year for the front wheel drive. PROS Good highway car. Replaced the bug with this. Lots of room inside. Good mileage. CONS No power (2.8L). Lots of mechanical and electrical problems. Replaced a coil pack every other month.

2003 VW Golf. Grand Prix finally died and bought this car. PROS Fun little box with a five speed. Nice deep metallic blue color. 32 mpg on the highway. great Monsoon sound system. CONS heavy little car. not so good in the snow. no power from the 2.0L SOHC. cramped interior. last little car ever to buy.

1973 Chevy 3/4 ton 2wd 454. Was my dads truck but i got to drive it on occasion. Hauled the boat and camper with ease. PROS sounded awesome. i remember my dad driving one time, goin down a hill, camper on and towing a boat, he floored it and looked at the speedo and it showed just under 100!! Woke the neighbors in the morning when he started it..lol CONS gas mileage. but prices were under a buck then. TH 400 gave out. He never serviced it. I miss that truck.

1987 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton. Was a beater. thought i was gonna restore it. My military duties kept me away from home so it just rusted more and more. PROS used it primarily for farm work and goin off road for hunting. CONS305 TBI and 700R4 plus 3.08 gears = alot of shifting. had a hard time towing my boat. only one tank worked. rusted right before your eyes. should have never bought it. still have it..as a parts vehicle.

1987 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4. This is my beast. Cant stop it. well, mud can but hey..lol it is a heavy truck. PROS Very reliable. 4 bolt chevy 350. TH 400 tranny. 4.10 gears. Solid front axle. rides and feels like a truck. Dont have to worry about hurting it or scratching the paint. is what a truck should feel like. CONSmileage is about 11 mpg. dont drive it alot. no problems with it.

2003 GMC Sierra WT 4x4. What a difference a new truck vs an old truck is. Those sayings are right when they say they drive like a car. PROS Terrific out on the highway. the extended cab makes it better. manual transfer case. i like better than pushing a button. manual windows and locks. easier when it gets really cold...dont have to worry about blowing a fuse or relay. gets 19 mpg on the highway at 70 mph. CONS black paint shows dirt easy. street tires on it (for now) soft and not for trails or dirt. no problems. i traded my Golf in for this.

thats is.

1989 Chevy Cheyenne SWB Regular Cab C1500 - Stock with 305ci, 700R4, 2.73 open diff. rear end... my first truck, bought it in 1993 from a family member, with 7,000 miles. For the next 10 years I modified about everything that I could afford drivetrain wise. Motor rebuilt with 350 parts (crank, cam, pistons) 3 angle valve job, Cyl heads ported and polished, 150 (used 75) dry shot Edelbrock N.O.S. kit, Larger throttle body, custom "Jet" burned ship, B&M stage II, Transmission cooler, MSD ignition, 3.73 LSD Rear, Lots of different exhaust setups, it was awesome! I miss it terribly, and was retarded for selling it. I sold it in 03' with ~152,000 miles, and it was running perfectly, even after I drove it like a lunatic for ~8 of the 10 years I owned it. Pic - http://www.ride-ms.net/~armstrong/Truck.jpg

2003 Mazda B4000 Ext. cab 4wd - 4.0L, 5 speed, 3.73... Basic model, not many options. Rode well, and handled pretty good, but that was about it. Gas mileage was freakin' awful (16 hwy), lots of power until you hit the stupid 87MPH speed limiter, it drove me nuts on the highway passing stuff at speed. Never again, I owned it 6 months. Pic - http://www.ride-ms.net/~armstrong/b4.jpg

2003 Silverado C1500LS regular cab - See sig... I like it alright, but it's been in for warranty work 7 times, all sorts of little things have worn at me in the last year or so. Great power, good mpg, and rides pretty well... all the problems can't help but make me wonder how long it will last though.

Pic - http://www.ride-ms.net/~armstrong/truckpics/03silverado.JPG

Cars -

1994 Ford Probe GT - V6, 5 speed, all sorts of upgrades, very fun to drive...

1990 Mazda Protege' LX - 4 cyl, 5 speed, SCCA Auto-cross monster, lasted 2 years somehow... Completely gutted interior for weight reduction, complete eibach suspension, Custom sway bars and end links, camber plates, full roll cage, recaro driver's seat, minor motor work, totally new exhaust, transmission gearing changed, drilled and slotted rotors, stainless lines, all sorts of other stuff.

2002 Mazda Protege5 - 4 cyl, 5 speed, sort of weak, good MPG, awesome handling...

1989 Ford Ranger: Reg. cab, short bed, w/ a mighty [weak] 4 cylinder and 5 speed. Being my first vehicle I can't complain too much I suppose. The engine had almost as much power as my weedeater, but that was probably a good thing when I was 15 years old and learning to drive. It would bump 90 in 4th on a slight downhill grade. Impressive huh? With the exception of the oil pump going out after being clogged by loose pieces of gasket maker in the oil, it had no other problems. Overall a choice for my first set of wheels.

1994 Nissan Hardbody: This one was ext. cab, 4x4, w/ the 3.0L V6. Definitely a well made pickup. Got it in '96 and it only had 14k miles on it (the owner lived ~2 miles from where he worked). When I got rid of it to buy my current truck my dad bought it from me ... still has it. To this day it runs great and feels like it did the day I got it (doors and seals are all nice and tight, no rattles or squeaks, etc). My only complaints were rough ride (what do you expect from a small 4x4 pickup though) and horrible gas mileage. I could drive normal or pummel it or pull a trailer or drive like my grandmother and it ALWAYS got 16-17 mpg ... no more, no less.

2002 Chevy Silverado: My current truck which I LOVE!!! (See the .sig for the specs.) I wanted a full size Chevy 4x4 since way before I could drive. Once I got out of college and had a steady job for a year or so, I decided it was time to get it! I ordered so I could get exactly what I wanted and I haven't been disappointed. The ride couldn't be better for a 4x4 pickup, imho. The engine strong and I get the same or better gas mileage than I did with the little Nissan! My only complaints would be the POS steering clunk (which, knock on wood, is gone since I replaced the shaft) and the CSK or piston slap or whatever the heck it is. I call it my "Duraclax" when it does that crap, lol. Anyway, I love this truck and will likely drive it for many years to come. If I could change one thing, I would make it one of the 1/2 ton crew cabs (which of course they didn't offer in '02).

1972 Chevy 4X4 SWB:Original royal blue with white cab. Inherited from my father (who bought it off of the showroom floor) for my first truck at 16. 70K original miles on it, cherry. 350, 4 speed. My friends called it balls of steel. What a shame, never give a teenager a gem like that. I sold it to my little brother when I bought my next truck(my sophmore year in college). He is currently restoring it back to original.

1988 Chevy 4X4 SWB:Maroon, 350,5 speed getrag, G80, Z71. Awesome truck, bought it used in 94 and it has been a diamond in the rough. An old man owned it, and when I bought it, it had 25K on it. My youngest brother currently owns it and he is still in college. It is lifted and looks sharp. 200K and still running strong.

1999 Chevy ext cab 4X4 1500 LT 5.3L:Ordered it in 98 and recieved it Sept of 98, first one for months in a small town. Black, Z71, loaded, every option available. Usual problems(steering shaft, etc). Great truck, run liked a raped ape, traded it for my current truck when it had 80K on it.

2003 GMC CC 4X4 D/A: See sig, SLT loaded, every option except DVD and G80. I have had two previous trucks with it(G80) and sure miss it, that is my only complaint. I have 34K on it and have not used my warranty once (knock on wood). This truck will probably take me to my 07. That will be the new D/A combo also. I was diesel hater(my grandpa had an 85 6.2L, which was gutless) but now I will never own another gasser. My goal is a new GM truck every four model years until the day I die, or my wife cuts me off(just kidding she loves them too).

1992 Nissan Ext. Cab 3.0L 4x4 ok truck, 4x4 handling was nice, rear diff failed at 30k speedo failed a 36k, windshield rattle when cold, bad mileage.

1996 GMC 1/2 Reg Cab 4x4 5.7 I really enjoyed this truck, very comfortable truck to drive with the short wheel base. Replaced water pump at 50k, wiper module at 70k

HD2004 GMC Ext.Cab SB 4x4 6.0 no complaints so far with 9k, wish it had a bigger gas tank, bigger tires, and better shocks would have been nice.

1989 1500 4X4 5.0, My first new truck liked the 8ft bed but the motor in my opinion was way underpowered but we did roll up about 160,000 miles.

1992 1500 4X4 5.7 5sp. Loved the manual tran and truck has pretty good power.

1997 1500 Ex-Cab Z-71 5.7, was at the Dealer more than at home. Glad it's gone.

1999 1500 Ex-Cab Z71 5.3, no complaints with that one.

2003 1500 Ex-Cab Z71 5.3, my current ride and it's close between this one and my 92 as to which one is my favorite.

1993 Chevy Silverado 1500 Extended cab My first new vehicle. Pros: 5.7L motor, auto transmission, A/C, power locks, power windows, AM/FM/cassette. Only replaced alternator and water pump plus normal maintenance. Cons: 40/60 bench seat (buckets are the only way to go), 2 doors, transmission starting acting up after 11 years and only 125k miles. It would not shift into 3rd at times.

2004 Chevy Silverado LT 1500 Extended cab Found a super deal just as the transmission on the 1993 started acting up! Pros: 4 doors (what took Chevy so long to build an extended cab with 4 doors?), 5.3L motor, auto transmission, heated leather bucket seats, AM/FM/6 CD changer, Bose speakers, power everything! Cons: Driver’s side mirror has a mind of its own and changes position by itself.

1973 Ford F150. Blue on blue, 360 auto, 2wd. What a dog, but tough as nails. Made it thru high-school - 'nuff said.

1978 Ford Bronco Ranger. Black/Silver/Rust. Mild lift. Awesome truck, wish I still had it. Beat it to 'ell and back and she took it all in stride. pleeure.gif

1988 Ford Bronco EB. Green/Tan. Nice giddyup at 50 mph plus (5.8L w/3 speed - no OD). Not terribly reliable. Comfy.

1996 Ford Exploer XLT. All the toys - AWESOME seats! Pretty reliable. 4.0L OHV engine was a dooooooooooooogggggg.

2002 Chevy C1500 5.3L ECSB. Maroon, very pretty truck. Comfy, quick. Short on backseat room. Would still have it if the general wasn't giving away '04's late last year.

Now, as listed in sig. Very nice trucks - love the giddyup of the Hoe, love the utility of the Lanche. Hope to keep'em a while.
