1964 International Harvester PU with 305 Continental engine and column 3 speed. What a tank that was! The front end liked to lock up on me when I was making a left-hand turn. I'd have to stop and go into reverse to free it up again. Scary.

 

1978 Ford Courier PU, 2.4 liter 4 cylinder.

 

1972 Dodge Tradesman Van, 318 with 3 on the tree, fully sexed out with carpet and paneling! Drove cross-country twice and only broke down 10 or 11 times during the trips. Mostly electrical problems, though the shift linkage was prone to falling apart.

 

1988 Nissan Pathfinder. Great little SUV.

 

1995 Chev S-10 Ex cab 4x4 with Vortec 4.3. Not enough towing capacity. Owned it for 11 years and just traded it for......

 

2004 Chev Silverado Z71 Ex cab with 5.3l. What a great truck. I drove all the other full size trucks, and this one is the best. Fuel mileage almost as good as the S-10, 18 mpg around town.

2001 Chevy Silverado LS RCSB 2wd w/4.8L

Pros-good power, ok milage, no major problems

Cons- truck met its end with an early 90's ford pos (the guy tried to u-turn during rush hour across three lanes of traffic )

 

2004 Chevy Silverado LS ECSB 2wd w/5.3

Pros- good power, ok milage, no major problems (have we heard this before)

Cons- Steering shaft, rock through the window

I have no regrets.

1997 gmc 1500 4x4, 350- awesome truck, great power ( 3.73) gears, never should have got rid of it. Only real complaint was the drivers seat frame wiggled while driving, drove me crazy.

1998 chevy 1500 4x4, ext. cab,350- very nice truck but with the 3.42 gears it was a dog off-road, and didnt have the locking diff.

1999 2500 nbs, 4x4,6.0L- great truck for work, 6.0 could have used a little more power but it would go pretty good when you stomped on it.

2003 2500HD, 6.0l, ext.cab, 4x4- one heck of a pretty truck, had 33" mudders, fire red, it was a dog at first but with a few mods she would go ok. Steering clunk, and a very stinky rotten egg smell from the exhast were the major problems.

2005 1500 crewcab 4x4, 5.3L, 3.73 gears- only have 5000 miles on it so far, nice truck but isnt tough enough after the 3/4 tons i have owned. So far the problems have been.... 1. 4x4 wont engage correctly.

2. gear shifter would freeze and not go in to gear.

3. throttlebody broke and the truck went into reduced engine power.

4. when in four wheel drive it makes all kinds of groaning noises.

5......cant remember....but i am sure there is something else

No problem Luko. I've got a Master's degree in English...and can you guess how many classes were devoted to grammar...that would be a big, fat zero!. And when we did discuss some minute issues dealing with grammar in a class, arguments would quickly develop.

 

Hmmmm, could not the "pros" be qualities my vehicles possesses? (hence, pro's) You see what I mean. Bottom line, you get the point of my post, let's run with it and not worry too much about grammar.

1988 Suburban 3/4 ton Scottsdale 4X4 - Bought it in 1996. Was a great truck, for a while.

 

PROS - Looked great, LOTS of room, decent power, decent fuel mileage, 400Turbo trans.

 

CONS - TC never was right, towing a small enclosed trailer worked the truck to death, high rpms with 400Turbo and prolly 4.10 rear end, no tach, heads warped right at 90k miles, rear fenders rusting. Truck was a commercial truck before I owned it, so it was probably beat on daily before I owned it.

2000 Dodge Ram 2500HD 4X4 Cummins 6 Speed Long Bed Quad Cab - So far, has been a low cost, reliable stump puller.

 

PROS - Easy to modify (310 h.p. & 675 torque on the dyno), tows like a mad mofo, 21 mpg empty hiway, 13.9 average towing my 24' enclosed trailer (65 mph). Simple engine, 4-Lo is a tractor, a pleasure to drive on the interstate, 6th gear pulls every hill, smokey-fog-out option for tailgaters, oooooooh the sound (straight piped), great sound in town, my toddler sons always want to ride in the truck, love the sound and smoke.

 

CONS - When empty still a slow as molasses (loose boost at every shift, and every shift comes quick with a 3,300 rpm redline, engine is about 1,100 lbs, its hard to accelerate that much mass, ) , extremely stiff heavy duty ride, not parking lot friendly, must shut off to communicate at drive throughs, scares me to even consider letting the wife drive it, everybody I know & my wife knows wants to borrow it to haul or tow, first one asked to help when someone moves, old-school steering with too much play and boat-like steering response.

 

I love Chevy trucks, but when I was looking for a new one, I was racing motorcycles, towing a small enclosed trailer. I had the Suburban. A buddy had a Cummins diesel, and he would pull a bigger trailer and blow me off the road through the mountains and get ~50% fuel mileage (diesel was cheaper then too). Chevy only had the 6.5L when I was looking, that was not an option (for me). The PSD was good too, but the simplicity of the Cummins and the look of the 2nd gen Dodge got the nod. I've not looked back, its been great.

1977 Chevy K10 regular cab long bed 4x4 - it was a gift from my dad for B-day 14. Blown motor but good paint, spent the next two year building my first 350. Sold it for a atv and some cash "stupid kid alway will regret"

 

1985 Ford Bronco 4x4 - one word "JUNK" got enough out of it to buy my grandfathers old chevy amd some tires.

 

1986 Chevy Silverado regular cab long bed 4x4 - Bought it from my grandfather for $100. Home made lift kit out of dumptruck springs and put a set of 38's on it. Drove it to school everyday. Only issue was the Carb but that could have been the 3 feet of mud I played in after school most days. Lots of good stories on this. Traded in for my next truck.

 

1995 Chevy Silverado regular cab short bed 4x4 - awsome truck, lot of performance mods. Did the bling thing. 20" 5 spokes on procomps. 2000 watt sound system. Stereo was stolen twice so I won't do that again. Sold it to my dad for my brother.

 

1988 Chevy Silverado regular cab long bed 4x4 - Bought it for a farm truck lots of dents but always runs 200xxx miles and still going. Still own it and use it daily.

 

1986 Nissan Pickup ext. cab short bed 4x4 - My dad bought it new in 86 drove it on long trips till 01 sold it for $1500 I bought it a year later for $700 and fixed it up to a daily drive no problems but lots of rust. Sold it back to my dad last year for $1000. I learned to drive in this truck and hope it stays in the family for alot longer.

 

1997 GMC Sierra Z71 ext. cab short bed - This is my daily drive / work truck. She only had 50,000 when I got it and not it has just over 100,000 in about a year. Only had to do a fuel pump and power steering pump in that time plus a few performance mods. The best truck I have had yet. I pull a 4000# tractor and loads of lumber daily. I haul horses all around the country and have never gotten worse then 12 mpg. This truck pulls every thing from my litlle 7ft slide in camper to 20 foot equipment trailers. I average 15-18 mpg just in daily day to day trips. Still own it and using daily

 

 

2000 Dodge Dakota ext.cab short bed with a cap - Bought it for my wife to get horse supply in. one of the best little trucks I have seen. It makes daily runs and still huals 900# of horse feed, while maintaning 20+ mpg. Not one problem in the whole time we've owned it. She get alittle squirly on wet roads though.

 

1986 Ford Bronco 2 4x4 I bought it out of a field for $25 and had it running that weekend for the mud bogs. I cut the fenders with a sawzall and hand mounted a set of old 36" swampers on the factory rims. Use it all the time for little outtings in the woods. lol After only installing a battery and cleaning the carb out it runs great and always starts. I guess they parked it because it doesn't have any brakes. lol A good toy and alway reliable.

1987 Chevy S10 - 2.8LV6, 4spd Manual, no power steering or power brakes. Loved the truck

 

1987 Jeep Comanche - 4.0LI6, 5spd Manual, 4x4. Best truck ever. 160,000 miles when sold two problems - clutch and ball joints. If I could time travel and buy this truck brand new I would over and over again. Please note this truck was made BEFORE Chrysler bought Jeep and F'ed them up.

 

2004 F150- 5.4LV8, XLT, 4x4, Ext Cab. Lemon Lawed. Will never buy another ford again.

 

2004 GMC Sierra - Decent so far. IT has had a lot of issues and been to the dealer a lot in the 18 months that I've owned her. Lots of dumb stuff to, interior trim that faded or warped, a/c needed recharged, new front, rear bumper and grill cause the chrome rotted. Stuff that makes you go WTF? Piston slap too. However, it is much better than the god forsaken Ford. IF this truck does not go well past 150,000 miles I'm going Toyota as Dodge just sucks and so does Ford.

1998 Ford Ranger XLT 4WD: Biggest POS known to man leaving me with a bad taste towards Ford. Marbling 4.0 engine replaced with Ford Quality Renewed motor which blew a rod in under 3k miles. Replacement FQR motor seized in the tech's stall. 4th motor ran fine and marbled like the first. Was also on the 3rd 5R55E auto trans when a drunk driver plowed into me and totaled it. Total warranty work exceeded $15K!

 

2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT 4wd CTD 600: Made me feel like a real man when driving. Torque to move mountains. Typical Dodge quality: leaking sticking weatherstrips, leaking back window, thin paint and sheet metal, and tons of interior/engine compartment squeaks and rattles. Sold it because it didn't fit in my work parking lot at the time.

 

2005 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 4wd 5.3 HO: Only reason I bought it at the time was Employee pricing which doesn't seem even slightly special with the deals out there now. Only real quirks are questionable intermediate shaft (treated once already ) and horrible 3:42 gearing that keeps the trans in hunt all the time. Even with TM, the power is awesome and I'm sure if I regear, it'll be a keeper for a while.

1994 Chevy Silverado SWB 4.3 V6, power everything. Drove it to 150K, sold it in '01 because of a growing family. Had a/c problems around 120K. Great truck, a little underpowered when trying to pass. I'd probably still have it if it were an Ext cab.

 

 

2002 GMC Sierra ECSB 5.3 V8, SLE ...has all the options I needed. Almost at 60K miles. I really like this truck, however, there are quality problems with the dashboard 'paint' or coating. It's starting to flake off a little bit. Another issue is the minor front end vibration around the 40-45 mph range. Having another minor issue with the cd-player...sometimes it take a minute or two for it to find a track on the cd. I should probably get a new head unit, cleaning it hasn't really worked... Overall, just a few minor issues...I'd buy GMC again.

Sounds like alot of people loved their 88-91 Chevy trucks, which is great, I had nothing but great expierences with those new old body style back then.

The trucks I've owned:

 

1988 S-10 - A basic 2wd drive truck. This was a high school graduation gift from my parents. It got me through college and hauled a lot of kegs. I kept it as a spare vehicle through 1999. It had 130,000 miles with no major problems.

 

2004 Colorado Crew Cab Z71 4X4 - I still think this was/is the best looking truck on the road. I miss it.

 

2006 Silverado Extended Cab Z71 - Roomy and rides well. In every way superior to the Colorado, but I still loved that truck.

1999 Chevy Z71 RC/SB- Bought it August '01 with 54k on it, ran great till August '04 when the tranny went, had 130k on it. Truck did everything I asked it to, pulled great, fast for stock, never got it stuck no matter how hard I tried (had to pull several others out though).

 

 

2002 Chevy Z71 EC/SB- Bought it August '04 when the my '99 had to be put down, had 32k on it. Rubber floor (no carpet!!), manual 4wd transfer, Texas flag bowtie, exhaust, tint already on it. Leveled it out and took the General tires off it. Truck runs great except last summer the ac compressor went (it wasn't the stock one, so I dunno if the guy before me had something to do with it going out or what). East Texas heat/humidity and no ac makes for a LONG summer.

352 V8, air conditioner under the dash and no power anything.

 

had untold number of miles on it.

 

put slide in camper on it and rode all over the US in it one year.

 

it was so simple you could fix it with a pair of pliers.

1995 GMC Sierra ECSB Pros: 1st vehicle, decent power, ran good, looked good. Cons: 2wd, 305 not the 350, no rear doors for ex. cab.

 

2000 Jeep Wrangler Pros: 4x4, Cons: Small, no power even with 6 cylinder and 5 speed, theft prone, crappy construction.

 

2000 GMC Sierra Z71 ECSB Pros: 5.3L w/3.73's, 4 doors, SLT package, decent gas milage, lots of power. Cons: price of gas, Nitto Terra Grapplers (bad wet traction and bad tread-life).
