Warranty Ending Soon

Okay guys, I have a '02 Extended Cab Z71 with warranty ending in mid-August. I am the second owner. I bought the truck 9 months ago with 24,000 miles on the odometer. I would like to know if there is/are anything(s) I should look at or have checked out before warranty expires? The truck has really given me no reason to think anything's wrong, but this is the first 4wd silverado I've owned. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Greg.

I would get under the truck and with a mag light or shop light go front to back visually inspecting for any signs of leakage or anything that may appear worn beyond what you would consider normal. Having the charging system checked, lots of auto parts places do it free, would also be wise. Check all hinges, latches for normal operation. Check under the hood for any sign of abnormal wear or leakage. Check u joints, and all suspension parts for any looseness. If you find something and they say it is normal, get it on the invoice as proof you reported it in case it does give you a problem later.

Get the GM warrenty and be safe. If you dont have any claims during the extended time you can get most of your money back at the end.

I have been doing it for years. I get the GM warrenty and without claims i get back most of my money. If i sell it outright (rarely) i can push the extended plan. Otherwise when i trade it in i get a check. Its in there somewhere in the fine print

BTW you have to collect before the policy runs out I think they give you 30 days.

Thanks for the tip. I knew you could transfer it if you sold it (for a small fee) which makes a good selling point. I also knew you could cancel it and also get a (partial) refund as well for whatever portion of the warranty was left but missed the part about getting a (partial) refund if they are no claims on it.

Oh ya? cool. That pic in my Avatar is Homer, he is my 4th OEM and currently the only one we have now, altho would like to get another one. We also have an Irish Wolfhound too.

I'd also be interested in how that rebate on the warranty works. I got it for my 2003 Sierra since thre were a lot of expensive toys on it that I didn't want to have to cover such as the Allison, (DMax already has a 100K warranty) and the rest of the stuff. I got mine right at the end of the new car period so it was less money and almost gave me a 7yr 111K warranty.

If you have problems understanding the legal poop. I suggest you go to the selling dealer and see the warrenty specialist. I found out about it about 10 years ago while buying a new truck.

ya get ready for your tranny to start clunking and stuttering as you hit the gas out of an idle. mine started doing that 300 miles after the warranty ended. just 4 days ago.

I would hope that your dealership would still check into and get GM to possibly fix your problem. Four days or 300 miles out of warranty is nothing. That would be enough to piss me off.

A buddy of mine is a Gm master mechanic and has been so for the last 20 years. He said to make sure that if you have any problems with your vehicle, make sure to report it. Even if they determine it to not to be a problem or don't fix it at the time, as long as it is documented GM has a responsibility to fixit if any further problems arise in the future regardless if the warranty has expired or not. I hope this little tidbit helps anyone out....
