Avalanche vs. 1500HD

Who will be in the market for a CC in the future? What would you pick and why?

I will only buy CC pickups from now on. My next one will probably be a 3/4 instead of 1 ton. I need more than a 1/2, but ran into a good deal on the big truck and just couldn't pass it up.

My wife insists that she needs a 4-door Tahoe.

Personally, I would pick the 1500HD.  Only reason being would be the higher towing capabilities along with greater payload.  If I didn't have a 32' travel trailer, then the Avalanche would be my choice.  The only prob with the Avalanche is that the bed has a great removable hard tonnaue (sp?) cover.  It would be tough to fit 4-5 bikes in there on a rainy day...  I always leave the cap on my truck and a short bed is long enough for me, so the crewcab 1500 HD would be my choice for now.  My wifes boss will probably buy an Avalanche in a month or two, when they become available.  I'll have to check it out rather closely!!!

I would skip both the Avalanche and the 1500HD and go straight to the 2500HD.  For the money your payin, I can get just what I want in the 2500.  Namely the manual tranny.

I agree with Ray 2500HD

The Av seems like it will be problematic.  Hopefully itll prove me wrong but if chevy is having problems with ext cab doors and windows how in the heck will it pull off that midgate???

Well, I still haven't seen either one at the dealer, so I have no conclusion. The 2500hd doesn't have autotrac, so I can't agree there either.

only downside to the 2500HD is the autotrac in my opinion.  The pushbutton 4wd is still pretty good in it

I had a chance to see both the AV (chicago autoshow) and the 1500HD.

id go with the 2500HD

Put up another vote up for the 2500HD.  The whole point of having a truck is for a bed.  That Avalanche bed sure won't do me any good.  I also don't trust pulling our gooseneck stock trailer behind a half-ton either.  

Guess it goes to show the way I decide what truck to pick, will it work for me or is it best left for pleasure transportation.

Actually the 1500HD is a 2500. The 2500LD has a higher towing capacity than a 2500HD both with 6.0L and 4.10's.

I would take the 1500HD.  I hate those pickups with the really short bed on them.  Heck, I don't even see a point in the regular 6' beds either.  I do think the Avalanche will be popular though, I see alot of Ford SuperCrews around.

I don't really think that people who buy the 1500HD crew cab are the type that would be in the market for a 2500HD.  The 2500HD don't really ride that great in town (nor should they) and that will turn alot of people off to them.

Hey all,

Regarding the 1500HD, I drove one last week and have driven several 2500HD's too.   I don't feel that much of a difference in the ride quality between the two.  Yeah the 2500HD is just a bit "stiffer" but remember the 1500HD is essentially a 2500LD anyway.

In the "older days" if you drove a 1/2 to then jumped into a 3/4 ton you notice the difference.  Well, I'd have to say there is not that much between the new 1500HD and the 2500HD IMO.  And, for the darn price of the 1500HD (one I tested was ?,000) I'd most likely opt for the 2500HD and get the 8.1L.  Remember, you can't have a "comfort ride" and heavy towing capacity too.  I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir on this one.

Given the choice, the 1500HD. The Avalanche is soooo blind that it is dangerous on the road.

 

I totally agree with the folks that opted and suggested the 2500HD. It is the ultimate truck and it what you will eventually end up with. Might as well spend the money now and be totally happy.

 

And if you do that, for pity's sake, get the LBZ Duramax with the incomparable six-speed Allison transmission.
