Has anyone raced a titan yet stock verses stock? or modded it dosent matter. i just read on titan talk that they are beatin hemis and even the ss silverado. I pulled up next to one at a light i kinda got a jump on em but he didnt pull up on me as i expected. he stayed about 5 feet off my bumper. I know for sure he was tryin but i dont kno if he was just sand baggin or what. because they are advertising low 15's stock with those trucks. What are the stock numbers for 5.3's?

thanks alot :D

I raced on on the highway with my '03 Silverado SS.

From 80 on he stayed with me pretty well, I walked away from him when he hit his limiter.

I had PCM4less tune and a K+N drop in.

Yeah the Titan can beat a SS and the Hemi. But not by much. From what I have heard those Tities 5.6 motor is pretty tuned and maxed out from the factory. So there isn't much room for improvment. But like with the Ford, Dodge and GM, we have lots of room for improvement.

But if one beats ya just remember they don't weigh near what the American trucks weigh. :D

But I raced one on the street once in my Hemi and it was neck and neck only because i got the better jump. Also I was bone stock. Yet to pull up next to one in my Z71.

I raced a crew cab 2wd on the highway from 55-60MPH to ~110MPH or so. We were dead even until the higher part of 2nd gear for me... 75 or so, I started to pull away some and continued until I let out with around a car length at 100. We talked at a gas station afterwards, and he suggested we race from a stop. He was pretty surprised I pulled that well with the 4.8L, as was I. I didn't have time to run again, but I'd imagine with their gearing (the lightest is equivalent to a 3.73) they would move.

I've test driven an Ext. cab XE 2wd, and a crew 4wd SE. Stock for me, especially with the 4.8L, I don't think it would have been a contest at all. The only mod this guy had was a flowmaster muffler in place of the stock one. At the time, for performance mods I had a K&N FIPK, Wester's Hot 93, and Magnaflow exhaust.

Raced my buddy's 05 Titan with my 03 Z71 last night 3 times. I have a Gibson single pipe exhaust, Westers Tune, and an Outlaw CAI & 42K on the odometer. His truck is bone stock with 22K on the odometer. A Stock GMC 5.3 from my year was 285 HP. His Titan is 305...but he said the guys on Titan talk are saying they are dynoing closer to 340...and I believe it.

A Big Surprise...My weight (Ext Cab) on the scale with me (190 lbs) was 5204 lbs and his Titan (Quad Cab short bed) was 5301 lbs.

Run # 1: Both of us in 2 HI

Z71 Titan

RT .818 1.242

60' 2.502 2.502

330' 6.18 6.655

1/8 10.358 10.111

1000 13.376 13.113

1/4 15.92 15.65

MPH 87.79 88.66

I won b/c of my reaction time only...by about 1 1/2 Truck Lenghts.

Run # 2: Both of us in 2 HI

The car in front of me blew anti freeze everywhere, but no one saw so I spun both rear wheels all the effing way down the track at an indicated 60-80 mph on the speedo...The Titan ripped a 2.291 60' time which is just insane, and ran a 15.42 at 88.79 wihch is sick. The next Checy 4x4 that went behind me spun all the way down the track I was told...and the idiots in the tower never stopped the racing so the next RWD car that went which was a Fox Mustang 5.0 did a 360 and crashed into the wall which stopped racing for an hr. Talk about imbeciles...and the poor guy has no recourse b/c you waive all rights to sue when you check in...nice huh. The guy was ok at least...but his car...not so much.

Run # 3: Titan in 2 HI & Z71 in Auto Trac (The truck jumped off the line...I was kicking myself for not doing this all d**n night...but I had no one there to ask if this was safe or if 4x4 HI was safe....and this forum was down all day yesterday.

I won again, by about 2 truck lenghts, but again, only b/c of my reaction time. The titan is fast...and his is bone stock vs. 3 good mods for my truck. I was impressed. I was psyched my truck pulled a 15.5 and thinking back with the what if's, If I knew to run in Auto Trac and kept the rear PSI in the tires up at 35 vs. the 27.5 I went down with, and then if I torqe braked to say 1500-2000 or so, who knows how much better I could have launched and run....but that's for another day. :D:thumbs:

My girl just bought an 06 TITAN with the 5.6L... Its got some balls, but I have to say it doesnt feel like it has anymore power than my yukon. We both roll on 22's and are bone stock performance wise. Pretty fair race, ill have ot try it out

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
