Molded mud flaps

Recommended Posts

I got cheap plain flat plastic ones from Autozone, bolted them to the inner fender lip on the back. On the front I used the inner fender liner mounting plug things and fender flare plugs (3 on each side.). Cheap and they work great, because I hear stuff hitting them all the time. They don't even look that bad. Sometimes simpler and inconspicuos looks better in my opinion.

I got molded ones made by Husky I believe. Fit very well and I'm very happy with them. No rockchips, mud, or tar ever on anything but the very bottom of the back bumper. The only thing I would recommend is getting some 3M clear vinyl protectant to go under anything that will touch the body. This will eliminate rubbing thru the paint. Mine came with these already cut to fit under the mud flaps. I still check it periodically and I have 50K on with the flaps and still no paint rubbing. I am going to reapply some new 3M vinyl under them next summer to as a safety precaution.

I have the Husky molded set also. I was initially concerned that they were not heavy duty enough but now they have now survived 5 Chicago winters with no signs of weakening, cracking, or bending backward. They were simple to put on. (holes all lined up with exisiting fender holes). They do their job great. I definitely would buy them again.

I had the molded GM ones on my 99 Sierra Z71. They held up well for 90K+ miles, but they rubbed the paint behind the wheels. Some 3M tape probably would have helped. I am running the flat GM one's with the Chevy logo now w/o problem. Although I do get some tar behind the rear wheels on the truck.

Ok I am sold on the Husky molded flaps. Found a place that has them for $24.95 a pair.

Question for you guys... is a my truck the same body style as a 99 - 05 Sierra / Silverado Fleetside?

They don't list the 2500 as a choice for the flaps. I just want to make sure that the holes line up.

Thanks

I don't know..the jury's still out on the Husky's with me. I have the molded ones on my 2004 HD and although they are tough and simple to install, over time a small gap appears between the moulding and the flap. They look good, but I may try the flat ones for giggles.

I believe the fenderwells will be the same on the 2500. I do see that you have fender flares so that might require a different flap then I have. I would assume that the contour of the flare is different then the body panel. I'm almost positive husky make on for trucks with the flares also.

negative1, you have the last of the C/K generation of trucks. the 99-05 is different.

The label on the package should say 88-99 or C/K series. Even though your truck is a 2000 model, there were few made compared to the Silverado/Sierra series that was new in 1999.

Are you looking online or at the auto parts store? The guy at the counter should be able to help you get the correct ones. Be sure they are made for trucks with flares.

Great looking truck BTW.

Thanks guys I ended up getting Power Flow molded flaps (much like the Husky flaps).

The local autozone had 2 sets that just happened to be my size $29 a pair. I got them on and they look great.

d**n place also had SS flame grill covers and one was my size ($57)... but I need to stop thinkin about that. LOL

Thanks again

Do they wrap around and touch the Paint on the side of the truck? If they do you need to get some 3m clear vinyl (maybe you got those with the flaps) or something comparable to protect the paint on your fender flares.

Just want to bring it up as I have heard allot of people complain about flaps rubbing thru the paint. I have the protective film and it does a great job of protecting the metal.

I'm also thinking about this, but with my two tone paint I want to get some color matched ones. Guys with Husky's...I was thinking about getting a set of those and having an auto body shop paint match them...they are paintable right?
