i spoke too soon...

monday i posted about my incredible success with disabling the twilight sentinel on my 99 silverado (before they added dome light trick).

Basically, the fix involved disconnecting the sensor and shoving a resistor into the plug which the sensor came out of...

it worked beautifully for 4 days, but has now become only intermittently effective.  Every time i start up, the lights work perfectly (they don't come on until i turn the switch).  if i don't turn them on though, they'll sometimes just pop on at a random time -- it seems like it happens when i hit a bump or slam on the brakes.

That sounds to me like the resistor is losing it's contact with the plug...

All i did to install it was bend the resistor wire such that it would fit into the plug, crammed it in and taped it all up.  Do yall have any ideas how to make it work???? i don't have a soldering iron and wouldn't know how to use one if I did....

Should i cut the plug and just wrap the wires onto the resistor??? Something else???please help!!!

thanks

Soldering is easy, and the irons are cheap at Radio Shack.  I recommend buying the iron and solder along with some kind of pin connectors that you can solder onto the resistor, then connect to the existing connector.  This way your "fix" is easily reversed if you run into a problem, or a potential buyer in the future wants to reverse it.

I try to never cut or damage factory wiring harnesses, always look for mating connectors of some kind to plug into factory stuff.  You might even be able to pirate the one from the sensor depending on how it's attached.
