New Chevy Truck and SUV recall

Recommended Posts

Just heard this on MSNBC.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said unwanted application of the antilock brake system in some vehicles can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed braking and may result in a crash.

Vehicles affected by the recall include the Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado pickups and the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs. The GMC Sierra pickup and Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs are also affected. All 804,000 vehicles trucks are from the 1999-2002 model years, NHTSA said.

Must be the problem where if you hit gravel or bumps at low speed ABS kicks in. Expect to see the recall actually come out in a few months. The stupid news always reports on recalls way early, from what I have seen here recently. They probably will replace the sensor at the wheels which is affected by salt and corrosion.

what if your abs doesnt work anyway?

Any chance that changes in tire size will affect whether or not they 'fix' it for you?

I have 265s but the truck came with 245s (long gone). I bet there are a lot of folks out there with 285s, 315s, etc.

Just wondering...

I've had the fuse pulled on mine for over 2 years cause I ain't shelling out the money to put a new module on. If they recall that then i'll be happy.

Mine went last winter I hit someone in a parking lot (dry conditions)

I got a quote for 500 Cdn. pre wheel to repair the ABS brakes that I never liked anyway so I pulled the fuse. This spring I got a letter and the recall notice so I took my truck in it was a 20 minute fix no parts funny eh.

The fix has worked fine for 6 months so far.

I was told it was just going to be eastern Canada that got the recall.

Detroit News Auto Insider says:

The recall affects trucks only in 14 cold weather states: Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.

Is this true? No recall for Texas? I've had the problem happen at least 4x, one time I rear-ended an Avalanche due to it. The first time it happened only 6 months after I got it new.

They need to include the '03's and not just from corrosion. My Yukon ahs done that since day one. Scares the hell outta me almost every day. Jeez, you just need to hit a little bump and the thing goes nuts.
