Nav install done

I got my Nav unit installed thanks to all the help here on these forums. I took it in to the dealer for the theftlock deactivation. Now there is a problem that hopefully someone here can help me with.

When I took it in to the dealer, the service tech said they may not be able to do it because sometimes the unit will not let them relearn a new VIN. They were able to unlock the unit but told me there were three codes that the computer was coming up with that indicated some sort of error or incompatibility and that the unlock may not last. They said that means at any time the unit may reset to the "theftlock activated" state. Well, I crossed my fingers and left. I tested the navigation and it seemed to work. When I stopped somewhere and turned off the vehicle, when I started up again, the navigation came up fine and then the message returned "theftlock activated" and the system turned off, or at least the theftlock activated message stayed on. When I got home and shut off the vehicle, when I restarted the nav unit came on fine and seemed to stay on. I haven't retried it again to see what it does.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on? The dealer said it may act up because the navigation was not originally an option on the '03 Escalade, and since the unit came out of an '04 Yukon Denali that the Bose premium sound system in my Escalade may not know what is going on and getting confused. I didn't really understand that because my model of Escalade did have the navigation as an option, at least it has the Y91 option with the Bose lux amp premium sound system, 6 disc CD changer, rear seat entertainment, everything I read about that said that was what I needed for the system to work in my Escalade. And it does work, everything was pretty much plug and play as far as all the wiring and connectors go, I didn't have to do any special rewiring at all to get it to work. The startup splash screen on the nav unit even updated and said "Cadillac Sound by Bose" even though the original splash screen just said "Delphi". So what is the dealer referring to about incompatabilities?

Another question, the nav unit has the XM radio option but my Escalade did not have XM. On the Nav unit now, there seems to be no selection for XM. Should XM be available even though the original system had no XM?

A final question, on my original unit I had an adapter installed that plugged into the CD changer controller (plug in the back of the unit) to add Aux inputs for my mp3 player. When "Band" was pressed the new auxillary inputs showed up. Now on my nav unit the auxillary inputs are not there, although the adapter is still plugged in and the CD changer is still disabled (as it was in the original unit). Does anyone know if I can still use the auxillary inputs adapter from my original unit, or will I have to remove it and just reconnect the CD changer?

The XM will only show up if you have the XM tuner installed and connected. XM is a separate unit that mounts behind the glove box and connects in through the input connector (the 12 pin connector where you put your aux input adapter)

Do you still have that original 12 pin connector connected to the input adapter?

does your reas seat entertainment work? your cd changer should still work even with the input adapter.

What model number is your nav unit and what brand and model is your input adapter?

The auxiliary input adapter is a GM12-AUX made by PIE. I was told it basically takes over the CD changer control so that when you press the BAND button you get a setting that says AUX1 or AUX2 instead of CD. For that reason, I suppose, it disables the CD changer. The adapter is plugged into the original 12-pin connector in a Y-type configuration. The rear seat entertainment still works with the wireless audio but I cannot control the audio with the nav radio controls-the controls show up on the nav radio, but there is no audio from the RSE through the Bose speakers from the RSE. Radio works fine, the only things that show up on BAND is AM FM1 and FM2, there is no longer any AUX1 AUX2 options on BAND and no CD option but the adapter is still plugged into the 12-pin harness.

My DVD nav unit is GM factory unit made by Delphi part number 15204335.

Sounds like I do not have an XM tuner so there is no option for it on the nav radio.

The nav unit you have should work with everything you have.

The reason you RSE audio and CD changer doesn't work is because of two reasons:

1) the factory 12 pin connector is not plugged into the "y" adapter.

2) the adapter is defective or not the correct one, PIE has had some problems with them.

make sure you have the right input adapter, some where made for applications with slave devices and some where made for applications with non.

I would look at the adapters made by PAC, there has been less problems with them, they even have a nice one now that works great for I-pods.

I removed the auxiliary input adapter and everything works as it should now. I noticed on the input adapter that the factory 12-pin connector plugged into the adapter 12-pin connector, only the adapter 12-pin connector only uses 8 of the 12 pins. A 12-pin connector comes out of the adapter box and plugs into the back of the nav radio but there are also 2 wires that come out of the adapter box and tapped into two wires in the 24-pin connector (a solid orange wire and a black with white stripe wire in the 24-pin connector. I would assume this is probably the wrong adapter for my vehicle.

If I want to add auxiliary inputs to the nav radio, should I consider the AAI-GM12 or the AAI-GM24 v2?

Yes, that is the adapter for use with no slave devices, that is why none of your slave devices worked (I.E. the RSE,and CDX)

Thanks for all your help. I suppose if I want something right, I have to do it myself. Those guys at Car Toys didn't seem to know what they were doing (they sold the adapter to me and installed it).

Looks like I should give the AAI-GM12 a look see. I don't use an iPod, I have a different mp3 player.
