Yard work today

I cleaned out our one overgrown, Azalea bed today. Pulled out several small trees, mostly white oaks. They were about the size of a baseball bat at the base. Once the size got bigger than that it was a no go, truck just sat there and made four nice deep spots in the yard. Must admit the BF All Terrains really dig in. It was also nice to see all four wheels pulling. I wonder if I had a nice full load of dirt in the bed it that would have helped.

Anyone else do much for pulling out stuff like this with your truck? I'm sure this is child's play compaired to some out there.

My wife wanted to get rid of this big ugly hedge in the front of the house so I tried pull it out with my Sportsman 700 which didn't move it an inch, so I hooked it up to me 2003 Sierra 2500HD with a Duramax/Allison which managed to get it out...There is a little pine tree in the front who's days are numbered too...

Read this somewhere else recently about how to pull small trees and posts. Take roughly 3 foot long piece of 6x6(or similar) cut a groove across one end. lean it up against the tree, attach chain to treebase, lope it thru the groove then to the truck. as you pull the 6x6 it "stands up" and pulls the post/tree up and out. I pulled out some small cedar trees for my aunt, they where about 3" in diameter.

It took some jerkin, but they came out roots and all. :jester:

Of couse I was on asphalt and it did bend the slide in ball hitch.

Im gonna have to yank out some fence post that my neighbor put about 4 feet into my lot, since he is taking his sweet time to fix it im gonna do it for him.

What should I use, and where should I tie it to the truck? I have tow hooks, and a tow package. I'll be pulling from the street, and the post are in wet Oklahoma clay. Also should I jerk them at all or just pull away? (no jokes guys) :jester:

When I pulled out the small trees. I use a heavy chain and wrapped it around the bottom of the tree, as low as I could get. The other end went around the ball on the hitch. I also layed some heavy rugs over the length of the chain, that way if the chain broke the weight of the rugs would drop the chain fast before it could fly through th air.

I would try to pull the posts out first and see how that goes. I would leave jerking them out as a last resort.

I have had the experience of having a chain break and come back and hit the truck.

I had a 97 Z71 stuck in the mud and a friend was trying to jerk me out when the chain broke, flew back and hit the back glass and the roof of the truck and land on the passenger side mirror. It didn't break the glass (it had scatches) but there was some scratches in the paint on the door and about 50 to 60 large dents in the roof.

The sad part was the truck was about 4 days old and I hadn't even made a payment on it.

Ouch dude, sorry to hear about that.

Well since I'm a carpet installer, I can get my hands on all kinds of used carpet. I'll just get the carpet wet, and I can see that working pretty well. Thanks for the tips.

Yeah there was a lot of beer drinking after that happened.

That should work just fine.

Best way to pull anything out get a wheel and tire that holds air. Put the chain around whatever you want to pull out as low as you can run the chain up over the tire and then connect to your truck, the tire should be standing up. Slowly pull away, the tire will roll as you pull and what ever you are hooked to will be pulled up not over so it will come out very easy. Have used a wheel with no tire, a log, a old stump any thing round it may be slow with some of these but take your time and it will come out like pulling a candle out of a cake.

That's what I do. It also has the added benefit of if it does break (on the tree end) the strap/chain will shoot upwards, not straight at the back of your truck and your head.

So good tips. Thanks, Now to go back to that one that wouldn't move and see if that trick will work.

On all the offroad sites, pulling anything except a trailer with your hitch ball is a big NO-NO! Them guys say that they snap off really easy and turn into projectiles. Best bet is to put the loop through the hitch and put the hitch pin in to hold it there. Just a heads up so balls don't go flying! :dupe:
