Electrical Cord

I was changing the oil on my 2001 Yukon XL last night and noticed an electrical cord hanging from the engine. It was coiled up and obviously never used. Does anyone know what this is for?

this is is probably what we call in the cold north as a block heater

Yep,Should be a block heater (On the drivers side of the engine),I've ordered one in all of my trucks,They help a lot in the cold weather we get here.

I am sorry if I sound stupid. Its just that I have had this truck for four years and didn't realize I had an engine block heater. How do I use it? Do I simply plug it in on cold nights?

Yup.

And when you start it, the heater/defroster will already be warm.

Block heaters are the cats ass.

You don't sound stupid,Thats what we're here for,To answer questions like that.

I run into a lot of people here at the dealership that have block heaters in their trucks and don't know it for whatever reason.(Either they forgot they had it or bought the truck used and don't have the window sticker)

As far as using it,Yes just plug it in,I always plug mine in as soon as I get home from work and leave in plugged in all night until I leave for work again in the morning.
