Coolant thread again.

Was just listening to a Automotive Repair auto show on the radio, apparently the Death Cool is really getting many of the mechanics upset and they are refusing to use the stuff anymore due to the numorus repairs they are making on cooling systems with the Dex Cool in GM vehicles. On the customers that bring their vehicles in for cooling system repairs and flushes, they are replacing it with the standard green stuff. From all the crap I've heared about with the dex cool I myself will never use the stuff again. They strongly recomend not useing any extended life type of coolant (no matter what brand it is) and to always have the coolant flushed every 3 years or 35,000 miles.

Gimme a break! There are already several threads about this. The owner's manual of every GM car/truck I've owned clearly states that maintenance schedules should be adjusted for different driving conditions. i.e.--heavy traffic, cold/hot weather, hills, trailering, etc. Furthermore, anyone who thinks that any fluid can be left in a car for 150,000 miles without being changed is retarded. The leaks spoken of on those bitching and whining websites probably weren't even caused by the dex-cool. That just happened to be what was leaking. If you give a crap about your car and pop the hood once in a while to check things out you won't have half of the problems these people are talking about. These are the same people who complain that their engine seized up but they only run 1 quart of oil in it.

Anyway, even if the dex-cool were to last 150,000 miles, the hoses, hose clamps, and thermostat won't hold up that long.

Most automakers are now sealing up most fluid components on passenger vehicles and use 150K as "lifetime"expetancy to cut cost and give a consumer a more worry free vehicle. By the way what's the change interval on manual transmission fluid, power steering fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid, many of which go well over 200K miles.

I've got to say, I just haven't had any problem with DEX-Cool.

I sell antifreeze as part of our oil distributorship, and I just have not had diesel shops compain either.

I had a 94 Caprice, police package with silcone hoses and I flushed and ran dexcool for 40K miles in 3 years without any problems and the whole deal against DEXCool started with suposed incompatibility with Silcone. The real story behind the first complaint was Cummins Diesel who made a coolant filter line and made good money selling them. With the extended drain coolants they were essenitaly not needed, so shortly after they were introduced this memo comes out saying a Cummins engine sprang a coolant leak due to Dexcool eating a silicone intake gastket.

My 97 Burb has Dexcool..well now a mixture of Dexcool and the newer Global coolant which mixes with all coolants, and besides the Vortec intake leak which all Vortecs had, my system is fine. I replaced my hoses last year when the factory water pump went out after 140K.

But that is just my experiance.

Funny none of my vehicles have trouble with it. I believe this is more hype and people thinking they can get a easy buck off of someone else due to their lack of proper maintenance.
