Which shocks??

With my income-tax return coming in anyday now, I was thinking of new shocks.  Which ones are the best, Rancho, Bilstein, Edelbrock?  Most of my driving is done on the roads, about 20 percent for play off road, nothing major.

I've got rancho RS9000's on my truck.  Very nice shocks and they are 5 position adjustable, so you can set them to soft ride for the road, stiffer for off-roading, and hardest for towing.  I highly recommend them.

Just to round everything out, I'll vote for the Edelbrock IAS.  I ran a set of these and was very impressed.  The on road ride was great!!!  No more suspension chatter over potholes and railroad tracks, and when they were pushed hard they worked even better.  I also noticed much less body roll too when cornering...

I think that the Rancho RSX shocks are the way to go. They came with the lift I put on my 99 sierra. I was going to exchange the for the 9000 but 4wheelparts would not give me a credit for the RSX's . Boy am I glad I didn't . The RSX are automaticly adjustable like the Edelbrock shocks . They are the best shocks I have ever had. They work under all condition well . Very smooth on the little stuff Yet firm on big hits. The 9000 are great but I would have to get the remote kit fot them .

After a year and a half on Edelbrocks, replaced all four under warranty four months ago....I'm dumping them. Not sure either on which one's to try next but a remote controller sounds pretty good to me.

obyone you just love new toys dont ya?

What happened to the edelbrocks?  Didnt you have to replace one before cause it was leaking?

For $44 I don't think you can go wrong with the Rancho RSX's. My Sensa-craps are on their way out and for the $$ I'm gonna give the RSX's a shot.

Just my $.02

I have minimum experience with different shocks. But, I replaced my stock red Tenneco monotube shocks with Bilsteins which are also monotube but mine are not comfort valved. The street steering and handling and rough off road performance improved considerably. I'm very glad I installed them even though the stiffer ride increased the annoying effects of freeway expansion joints and parking lot speedbumps. I had an opportunity to return them to Autozone and then install others recommended in this news group from Offroadwarehouse (Was leaning strongly towards Rancho 9000's). Tough decision, too bad we can't test drive several shocks, but I liked the Bilstein's pluses and followed the advice of Offroadwarehouse sales persons, some who seriously offroad, and several of this groups members and kept them.

Ryan-

Edelbrock is a great company. I had one leaking shock and they offered to replace all four under warranty. Charged me $200 for the shocks and paid $60 for shippping back to them. The refunded $260 back to my charge card upon reciept of the old shocks.

What I've noticed about the edelbrock shocks is that they work well on large bumps. It's those small potholes and cracks in the road that they don't work well on. When I hit them, I get shockwaves through the front end. Most annoying. I ordered a set of Bilstein HD yesterday from Shockwarehouse. Since they specialize in shocks obviously, I went with their recommendation. Edelbrock in the meantime has offered to again replace all four. Guess those might go on sale on ebay.

obyone how much did you pay?

offroadwarehouse.com had em the cheapest i could find ($49.99 each)

I saw that post regarding the price at offroad. Their freight charges were a little higher than shockwarehouse making it an even deal and since I've ordered through them before, makes it even easier. I paid $54.95 per shock with shipping coming out almost the price of another shock.

Checked out a couple of stores locally which carry Bilsteins and the closest I came to buying one was at this store that wanted $75 each not to mention that they only had one front shock in stock.

I paid a total of $216 with shipping.

I didnt get mine right away cause the fronts were on back order for like a month.

To bad you didnt tell me you were ordering sooner.  Offroadwarehouse had sent me an email with a coupon code for a % off bilstein shocks.  Since i am now a preferred customer of theirs

I like the Bilstein HDs. They worked really well on my last truck so I am going to get a new set for this one, just as soon as my state tax check comes in.
