Diesel or gas, which is it?

I do purchasing for a company that builds bodies for the telecom & other industries, and I'm not yet up to speed on some things. Is there a character in the VIN that would tell me whether the vehicle is diesel- or gas-powered? Most of these are chassis/cabs. Thanks.......

The eighth digit of the VIN is the engine type. If there's a "1" or a "2" in the eighth position, it's a diesel. "1" is the LB7 Duramax and "2" is the LLY Duramax.

 

If there's anything other than a 1 or 2 in the eighth position, it's a gas engine.
