The used car manager has offered to sell my truck at auction and give me whatever it brings toward another truck.  He has also offered to purchase a truck(2002 Z71 w/10-20k miles) for me at auction and sell it to me at cost.

This scenario will mean I lose about $1500 from what I paid them for it a few months ago.  I will also lose about $1800 in investments/repairs made to the truck since I bought it.

What do you guys think?  Should I push for these guys to do more or am I wasting my time?  Should I just take the loss or complain more?

Mark,

I'd definately push for the lost $1500.  The worst they can do is turn it down.  You never know, they may not though.  ???

Not much you can do about the lost money from accessories.  Are they going to let you take stuff off the truck?

Why are you itchn to get rid of it again.

If you're not afraid of jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, I'd unbolt everything you can (that you've added) and ditch it.

Their service department quoted me $1800 to repair what is wrong with it.  I have not ruled out buying the parts myself and repairing it.

I really feel caught in the position of...do I trade and get a much newer vehicle with a couple of options I would really like(G80 locker,4-doors,not 3), with factory warranty or do I fix what I have myself for about $1000, and not have a warranty for any other problems.

Mark,

It seems that some of the '99s were a little more problem prone than others.  That isn't unusual with a new model introduction year.

Alot depends on your financial situation right now.  Yes you will be spending more money, but you'll be getting a newer truck with a factory warranty.  Also, I wouldn't be scared to stretch the loan out another year, and the interest rates are in your favor right now.  For example, my credit union will loan up to 6 years on a new or used (2000 or newer) vehicle at 4.9%.  If you can find a rate like this, then you may be further ahead...

Try throwing it in The WantAd, might get some callers.

A CFP once told me "don't carry paper on a depreciating asset".

Have a great one!

I'd be careful about getting a truck from the auction...you never know what your going to get. My brother is in the used car business and he has seen some unbelievable things.
