I was just wondering what kind of stereo receivers and equipment you guys have put into your trucks, your opinions on it, and if possible, you could post pics of them. Happy Holidays!

Ive got a panasonic whatsit or other, i liked it because it had a manual volume knob (im old school). But it pretty much wasted my factory speakers. Those are next to change! :D

I kept the stock head unit to keep the rear controls and to keep it more stealthy regarding theives. I replaced the 4 door speakers with Pioneers 6 1/2" 3-ways. I replaced the stock sub with a Rockford 8". Not the best size but fits in stock location. Added XM radio reiever via fm modulator. Lastly, added Kenwood 4X100 amp for the doors and a Punch 1X150 amp for the sub. Amps and receiver are under second row seats. I still get distortion out of the head unit but again, I wanted it to look stock from the outside so I am ok with that compromise. Rocks good and loud though :D

Check out my truck in the owners registry - I recently posted pics and spec's for everything so far. I like the JVC head unit since it has an input port for an Ipod.

I finally found a song that will overdrive the 12" subs - A piece from Symphonic Chronicles called Flight of the Dragon Riders. This song has lows that go way lower than 30 Hz.

I played this song on some Polk Audio Floor units(1599.00 ea) and they also have the same clipping for this song.

I'm now trying to find someone to make a custom enclosure using this units Dual (brand name) twin 12" speakers.

Mostly I listen to Hard Trance, so you can imagine the thump when I drive down the road. :D

Im concentrating more on the receiver currently. I'm looking for a deck that plays mp3s without compromising having a 6 disc changer. Thought I would check out what others are using.

The JVC head unit loves MP3 disc's. While a single cd unit, it also has controls for a changer AND is set up for Sirius Radio(need 20 buck ad-onn for the sat service).

I play cd's full of mp3's I pulled off of the Usenet. I usually put no more than 10 mp3's in each folder. :D

I would seriously recomend the Alpine Head Units, the have the ability to play back mp3's as well as expand to have sat radio and cd changers that will play mp3's, cd's, dvd's, and many othe devices via the "AI-Net". It is pretty cool, I have Serius, but you can get XM(if you prefer, it will do either), as well as a hook up for my Laptop or any device that has an 1/8th inch head phone jack.

ANY Alpine or is it model specific? Occasionally I run over to Crutchfield and browse what fits my truck. Soooo many choices. I'd just like the obvious advantage of MP3 discs being that you can fit more than 20 songs on it.

I started my audio project about 6 months ago. My truck came with a AM/FM radio since it is the WT edition, but did come with four speakers. I replaced that unit with my previous vehicle's Panasonic player. I also added a small amp for the 2 10's in the back. For the doors, I went with Infinity Kaapa 2-way speakers. That setup lasted about 3 months. I have since upgraded to a much better player, a Pioneer Primier DEH-P770MP player and had dynamat put in the doors behind the Infinity speakers. It sounds a whole lot nicer than the previous radio. However, there are still more things I would like to do. My sub box needs to go along with those subwoofers. I would like to build a custom box for the back and better/bigger subs. I also want to replace the speakers in the back panels with a basic Infinity Kaapa, or something comparable. The effect of having the back speakers on, but with most of the sound coming from the front doors is really nice, IMO. The internal amp is nice with the speakers, but I would like to go with an external amp for the speakers, so I will be looking into that also. My goal is to have a nice sounding vehicle, with keep things looking as OEM as possible. I am about 75% there. :D Seriously, other than the player itself, everything looks stock it just doesn't sound that way. I would post pictures, but like I said it looks flush with the vehicle. I have a picture of the actual player in my vehicle in the garage. -Shoot2Thrill

How did you remove the rear seat? I'd like to do that so I can run wires efficiently and hide them.

I have the stock head unit and two 10" kickers under the rear seat. I also have enough speaker wire so that I can sit the on the tail gate if I am at an outdoor party. I plan on replacing the stock unit and front speakers this spring.

From what I recall, there are 5 18mm nuts holding the seat down. Then you just lift it straight up, and wrestle it out the door. I did it by myself, but I'm a big guy, you may not be.

The wires will all fit under the door sill panels.

    • People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.
    • Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.

    • I have a LTZ and it has the shifter in the console, which I like, but, every now and then, it will not stay in Reverse. I go through all the motions, hold the button in, push the shifter forward and watch the dash.  The big red R comes on and also the back up camera.  Then, it just pops out of Reverse with the shifter all the way forward.  So then the game begins.  Back and to Drive, Reverse.  This goes on 8 - 10 times. Very frustrating. Had it back to the dealer and they replaced some kind of computer, but it is now happing again. It is so bad, my wife will not drive the truck, she is afraid of being stuck somewhere.    Anyone else with this PIA problem?
    • I see where you’re going and I can appreciate that. Statistics can be misleading because of the word average. They say statistics show the average cost of a new vehicle is about 50k. The average monthly payment is close to 1000 dollars a month. That’s statistics for you. I know very few people who pay that.
