This is interesting. But still the individual inside would have to be strapped in like a NASCAR driver.

Crash video

I noticed the barrier was not perpendicular and had a slant which would have deflected the crash energy mostly to the left centre as shown on the right side of the car.

I see these things on the highways and compare their safety only slightly better than riding a motorcycle on the roads. Just think if a semi hits it -- bye bye driver and passenger!

Small cars are great in single car wrecks. The problem comes in when you add a 6k lb pickup truck into the mix.

Freakin' rednecks in their rolling billboards for conspicuous consumption. :fume: Why can't they all drive normal vehicles?

What's that car weigh? 1500 Lbs? Add the weight of two adults to it and try it again and then show me how it "Survived". It's like dropping an empty beer can off the roof of your house. Not much damage, compared to dropping a full one.

The real value of this clip is that it puts you in the google video search tool.

Search for crash.

There are quite a few cool crash videos, in the first 5 pages of results.

I don't think the damage would be much different adding a large vehicle into the mix... The energy would be deflected, like the car hitting the solid barrier deflected to the side. I think something similar would happen the small car would simply be knocked out of the way rather than a larger car trying to hold it's ground and sustaining more damage, plus it is a much smaller target to hit. :D

Your kidding, right? They are Crash Test Dummies. We already have those cars up in Canada. Now we have to look for motorcycles AND Smart cars in our blind spots.

Somehow I don't see those doing very well in the States, high gas prices or not. IMO that car is about as ugly as the Mercedes A class. I'd sooner buy a VW Jetta or Passat TDI, settle for 45-55mpg, and still retain some usable space and crashworthiness.

Not a smart fan.

You will probably see them in the big cities. All the tree huggers will scoop them up. Its the tree huggers up here in Canada that are buying them.

Yep, that's true....and I hope they don't hit a tree when driving one of those. It'll put a different meaning to 'tree hugger'.
