Trans temperature

Just a quick question out of curiosity, for those that have installed an Escalade or Denali cluster that has the trans temp gauge on it, what kind of temps do you run under normal driving? (unloaded and not towing anything)

 

After recently installing a Denali cluster in my truck, I noticed mine is between 125* to 150* depending how I've been driving. Also, it takes a little while for tranny fluid to get up to temp. I never realized how long. Could it be taking a tad longer because of having the factory auxilary cooler on my truck?

 

BTW, I love the cluster and had been wanting to get one for a couple years, but kept putting it off.

IN my '01 2500HD with the 4L80E, The tranny temp would run about the same as yours is. It would run warmer when towing, and I have seen it as high as 200* when towing a heavy load uphill.

 

My Allison in my current truck seems to run about the same...

 

It does seem to take a long time for them to generate much heat, and in the winter time when temps are below freezing, sometimes they barely get above 100*.

 

It's a comforting thought to see the tranny temps this low, because we all know that heat is the trannies worst enemy.

Hey there, I have an interceptor hooked up and it seems that in the winter, it barley tops 110 F...if sitting in traffic and such maybe a little more ~125 F. In the summer it gets to ~140 or so...the hottest day (~100 F outside) and stop and go traffic for 30 minutes I saw ~185 for a few minutes...but as soon as I hit the hiway...back to 140-150 or so. Just depends on the situation...if below 40 degrees outside, I rarely see a reading above 120 though, and yes it takes a while to get there...~10 miles or so sometimes. I expected it to get to 170 or so and stay there regardless of the temp, but that does not seem to be the case. I would say an average reading for mine is: for winter ~ 100 +- 15, for summer ~140 +- 15. Hope this helps, later,

I put the Denali cluster in mine as well and it runs between 150 and 180. Depends on the weather and what I'm hauling/towing. I have seen it hit 200 in the mountains of VA towing a 3600lbs boat and trailer.

 

I lucked out and got one that had 34k on it so I just waited until mine hit 34k and installed it. I think I am off by about 124 miles from when I pulled mine. Of course the hour meter is off, don't remember by how much for it. At least it saved me the cost of having to have the odometer set to the trucks mileage. Not to mention the low cost from buying it used off Ebay.

I am curious - what is the cost of a new Denali gauge cluster? It is probably astronomical! If you want to have a functional transmission temperature gauge, all you need is a cluster with the gauge - no need for any temperature sensor installation in the transmission?

from what i understand, our trucks have existing wiring/sensors so all you have to do is plug in a gauge cluster with trans temp gauges on it. someone correct me if im wrong.

Just plug it in and it's ready to go. This is the best price I've seen. Just remember the '03 and up is different. These people do offer the '03 and up. I had mine in about 2 days. Don't worry about the 'auction has ended' notice, they stock these any time.
