Question for GM-Tech or Members

I'm looking for any and all info about making this system work on my Sierra - only because my new wheels already have the sensors and I can't imagine that the Yukon/Denali's have that much more different parts than the sierra.

Is it a factory option that just isn't enabled on the Sierra?

No pickups come with tire pressure monitoring. Don't ask me why. If they put 20" wheels on your truck at the dealer, I'd say they put the wrong wheels on it (they come all assembled/balanced with tires, sensors, etc.) if they have the sensors in place.

The same thing has happened at our dealership. Worse yet, they've put 20's without pressure sensors on Tahoe's and Suburbans and delivered it that way, only to have the customer back the same day or next with the "Service Tire Monitor" message displayed. Then they have to scrambled to get the right wheels.

The receiver is in the passenger door module and of course the cluster has to be able to display the tire pressure information or at least the fact that you have a low tire. Programming of these items is by the VIN (so it knows what options you have) and we don't have the luxury of being able to turn on/off whatever options we want, so there's no way that I know of for the dealer to enable TPM on your truck.

Here is a question for you about the tire sensors. I just installed 20's on my 05 suburban and ofcourse I forgot about the sensors so now I get a "Service Tire Monitor" message displayed on the cluster. Can I goto the chevy dealership and get the sensors and installed them so everything is back to normal??? Right now when I see the message I just hit one of the buttons to get rid of the message. thankx

The sensors may not fit properly if they're not factory 20's. But yes, if you can install the sensors and they can be learned, everything will be back to normal.

So when the system is actually working it only show "Service tire pressure" or something similar? Not the actual pressure numbers in each tire?

As for my wheels, these weren't factory installed, they're just factory wheels...make sense? I purchased them recently from a GM dealership. I was just wondering how the system worked and if it was possible to adapt to my truck. I would think that my cluster has the ability to display the numbers or messages as I would sure think the Sierra's and Yukons have the same cluster. And for the module - maybe just pick up one from a salvage yard....all this being if I was really wanting to make the system work. And if I don't get actual pressure numbers, just some generic display, I'm not that interested proceeding. I can make visual "check" of the tire pressure (which I find myself doing) before I get in the truck. I was hoping that the system provided some hard numbers as to each tires internal pressure.

If you have the steering wheel controls, you can page through the driver information center and display each individual tire's pressure. If you don't have steering wheel controls, you'll just get a low tire pressure message and will have to go around and check all the tires to see which is low.

Too bad GM enabled the individual readout feature starting in '05; guess in '04 GM must have reasoned that folks like myself didn't need to know how low a pressure a tire was running, nor needed a visual indicator to tell me exactly which tire(s) was low since GM figures if the tire is that low on air, there's no way I can't visually tell just from looking at the tire.

Well I do have the steering wheel controls....and if this is an 05 feature and I'm doing a custom install, it might not be an issue so much. I have a friend that is a tech at a local GMC dealer.
