I averaged out to about 15.5 this winter. This with the driving 5 miles to and from work with mixed city/highway. Highway I could probably be at a solid 17.5.

With the wait4me tune i am seeing 17.5 average when before i was averageing 15.5.

well if it is a standard or short box than it is a 26 gallon tank wheras the long box has a 34 gallon tank.

My 2006 Ext. Cab Standard box gets 20-23mpg up on the highway

Wow, is that with the V-6 and 5 speed????

I have a truck similar to what you are asking. It's a 5.3L Z71 4x4 with a 3.73 rear, extended cab shortbox. I get right at 15 city and right at 18 highway. Straight city driving I can get 310-330 miles per tank (I fill up when it's real clost to the "E" and it's usually around 22 gallons) and I have the 26 gallon tank. (I don't like to let the fuel get too low, it's better for the fuel pump to not run the truck on E a lot). I just did a trip from SC to NY and I could go between 400-420 miles on about 22 1/2 gallons of gas (when the needle says "E"). If you leave with a full tank you can fill up on E and get where your going with about 1/4 tank left.

My 2004 ext cab 5.3l averages 13.5 mpg in town driving and about 18 mpg on the highway with the tailgate up and 15-16 mpg on the highway with the tailgate down. I drive my truck hard in town. I get it up to 4000 and 5000 rpms quite a bit and on the highway i am driving anywhere from 70 to 110 mph.

P.S. After my sway bars and shocks. My truck hugs the road at those speeds.

About 14 MPG in town, 17 highway - empty '06 Z71 crew cab with tailgate up, 3.73 gears, 5.3 engine, cast iron block, no mods to date. This mileage applicable only when driving conservatively.

I see all you guys getting these great figures and wonder if something is up with my truck. 05' H.O. 5.3 w/ 3.42's seeing roughly 14, maybe less mixed driving. Yeah I may have a heavy foot on the highway(75-80 avg.) but I don't "beat" on the truck. Those window specs gotta be at 60mph, windows up with the tail wind in your favor because I only see decent mileage on long highway trips. I could probably get close to 400 miles/tank all highway. But still w/ a 26 gallon tank that's 15.38 mpg. The way I'm driving now I see 150miles to a half a tank and that's w/ a tad overfilling once the pump clicks off. I fill up every week from a half tank or so. The gauge seems to hover above a half tank for longer but I d**n well know once you get below half that gauge goes down quick.

That is some great mileage! The only way I would get that with my 6.0 would be to push the bastard off a cliff! LOL

Add some more salt to the wound. I swear it's the stupid pansy 3.42 gears I so ignorantly got stuck with. Tranny shifts more than my girls Nissan Sentra on a hill.

18.5mpg on the highway, if I run 93 octane "top tier" gas, 16.3mpg on 87 octane.

this is at speeds of 70-75mph

17.5mpg city on 93 octane "top tier" gas, 15.2 on 87 octane

My truck doesn't shift much on highway, mostly just stays in OD

2005 ECSB Z71 L33 5.3 liter, 3.42 gears
