Odometer/Gearshift Indicator

My odometer/gearshift indicator flickers when idling. As soon as you rev the engine, it gets bright again. Does this mean it is burning out or something? Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't had any problem with "repeatable" flicker but sometimes when it is real hot (temps 90+) and truck is parked in the sun, the display will not come on at all. I can hit the dash with the palm of my hand (a sharp "technical tap") and it usually lights up. (sometimes it will blink out again as I am driving.) This no show on start has also just started happening in cold weather (temps continually in 30's or lower).

 

this has been going one (hot side) for about 2 years. cold side just started this winter.

 

not sure what the problem is and I haven't had time to track it down but it acts like a loose connector that breaks contact at the weather extremes.

 

your flicker could be an early symptom of the same. I vaguely remember seeing my display flicker once or twice in the spring/fall weather.
