Tie-Rod Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hey all, will be replacing both my outer tie-rods this weekend on my 99 NBS Sierra.

Anything i should look out for, or possible problems i might find. I looked at my manual and said to use a puller to remove it, not the fork(why is this,) will be first time i've ever replaced one of these not using that fork tool.

Thanks in advance....

Hey Crate, dont have a clue to your question but what was the indications that you had that let you know you needed new tie rod ends ? Just wondering just so I will know for my own sake...Thanks

noticed some uneven tire wear, and feeling in the steering wheel. got under truck and both moved, so took it to have a front end check, as was told both outer tie-rods where bad...

The fork destroys the boot so you can't reuse the tie rod end. Not an issue if you are replacing IMO. I used a puller and it popped right off.

After you finish replacing the tie rods, do not forget to have the front end realigned. otherwise, your toe-in setting will be out and tires will wear funny on the edges.
