Question about the ABS module

Since some seem to be having problems with it, I thought of a question.  Would a person be able to get one from a truck in a salvage yard and just replace their bad one, and it work without having to having to have any programming done by the dealer?

 

You never know what kind of shape it would be in from a salvage yard, but I was just curious as to if it would work.  ???

I think the problem was pretty much with the '99 trucks and maybe a few early '00s.  So far GM has been prety good about acknowledging the problem (but sometimes you have to get the Rep involved).

 

If you were to get one from the salvage yard, I'd want to make sure it was from a late '00 - '02 truck.

 

As far as the programming goes, I don't know if the units are the same, or what happened to make them more reliable.  I know we switch vendors at work often when we have a reliabillty issue.  (I think we have switched fuel injector vendors 3 times in the last 6 years.  We've gone back and forth between Lucas and Bryce)  Of course our injectors dump a thimble full of fuel on every other stroke, and we need to achieve 300 HP per cylinder and still maintain Teir I emmisions....  And I'm rambling on about something way off the subject!!!   LOL  Sorry  :blush:

I had the module in my '99 go out the first day I owned it and again a week before I sold it.  I watched them replace both.  It was just plug and play.  If you find a good one in the salvage yard, you can just plug it in and it should be good to go.  I have checked on my '02.  The modules have the same connector.
