1995 SIERRA STARTING PROBLEM

I have a problem with my starter on my 1995 sierra with a 5.7. When I turn the key sometimes the truck starts and sometimes I just get a click from the solenoid. If I turn the key a few times the starter will eventually kick in. Do I have a dead spot in the starter, or is the ignition switch going bad?

I would gett the battery checked out first, just to be safe, and then go from there.

Thanks for the response. I put on a new alternator and had the battery checked twice so I'm not sure where to look next.

I had a similar problem with my '95. The battery was good and the charging system was good. It turned out to be a 'dead spot' on the commuter. The easiest fix was to change out the starter. It lasted 10 years - time to give it a well deserved burial.
