Torsion keys

Is it best to install different keys to level the front end or just crank the bars with the factory keys? If different keys are installed will it result in less wear on the front end versus the cranking of the bars with the factory keys? This is on a 2500hd truck also.

It will not result in less wear. Try cranking the existing keys first if that doesn't give you enough lift install different keys. The more lift (regardless of which keys you use) results in more wear.

My goal is to get 285's on 17x8 or 9 wheels. I plan on keeping this truck for a good while and don't want my front end going south from the torsion bars being cranked. I have thought about a 3" body lift but I might install a goose neck or fifth wheel hitch one day so that probably takes the body lift out of the picture.

FloridaZ: you shouldnt have to "crank" your torsion bars with a "true" suspension lift for your truck. Some half a** companies sell lifts in which you get a drop down subframe that equals "X" amount of lift, and the rest is a T-bar crank. In my opinion, that is a shoddy product for the most part. Other higher end tried and true companies use a true amount of lift with their application, without the need to crank the torsion bars past factory specs. I would consider a better company, and call each manufacturer and ask QUESTIONS!!!

Isufan: yes cranking your bars will adjust lift, but will also put more tension and pressure on the front end, namely balljoints and drive axles. Also, make sure that you get an alignment PROMPTLY after you crank, because your alignment will be all out of whack.
