I bought a K&N replacment drop in Air Filter Today it will be shipped out tommorrow.  Is there a noticable increase in power and sound and fuel Milage with it ?? Compared to the stock air filter??  Thank you!

I have the K&N drop-in in my 6.0L also.  I didn't notice any increase in sound or performance, but maybe a minimal gain in mpg's though.  The FIPK seems to give enough added performance to make it noticable though, and it also gives you that "4-barrel" sound when you're on the throttle too...

Ok, this is the third time I've seen FIPK mentioned.  What exactly is it?  I figured out what the K&N was on my own.

Yup another dumb question!  Do they have one of these   :)   that points to myself?  lol

I have the FIPK on my 5.3 and love it. it gives the engine a deep rumble when you accelerate hard. ia also have a throttle body spacer and the FIPK makes the "whistle" louder from the spacer. all this stuff looks cool too under the hood.

I am thinking about buying a K&N Gen II FIPK and have some concerns about it.  I have a 2001 Silverado 5.3L and am wondering how well does the K&N actually filter, I do most of my driving on gravel roads and am worried about the filter not doing it's job and filtering out all of the small dust particles.  Am I wrong  in my assumption and just being paranoid or should I really be concerned??

Thanks for the input!!!

Hey thanks for replying not only with a description but pics.  I have to admit that sure does look sweet under the hood.   I have a question about it.

I have that so called Hepa Filtration unit in my rig.  It rests in the same area as your FIPK.  Is there a lot of work involved in removing it, and installing the FIPK (anyone?)  It looks like it's not too involved.  I'm not afraid of getting dirty so any words on the dificulty/time involved in this mod?  (I went to the site and it sure looks fairly easy.)

Anyone done this to a 2002?  Is it the same part number as the 2001?  The K&N site didn't actually list a part for the 2002 5.3L 1500s.

Here's a guide that Shaners did on the install.  K&N FIPK Install

As far as being the same for an '02, Id say it is, but K&N may not have it approved for emissions yet.  (can't remember what it's called, CARB I think.)

I think Tom is right...  The unit for the '01 should work in the '02.  It has to do with the legal mumbo jumbo from the state of California  (CARB) .  They want to test every after market unit in order to make sure it is 50 state legal.

We went through this with the '00 and '01 trucks...  When the '01 trucks came out the  guys just put on the unit from the '00 parts number and it worked great!!!

Just wondering........

If this is actually the best intake system for our motors why doesn't Chevy use them as

stock equipment? What is the actual benefit?

Sound?

MPG?

Power?

Just checked my mileage Friday, 15+ MPG for my town driving and I got 17+ driving it home the 300 miles from the dealer, all highway.

So why should I invest the money in an air filter?

I just installed the K&N Filter on my 98 5.7. I haven't checked the mileage yet but the thottle response is better and you can hear the air being sucked in. I sounds like a 4bbl carb.
