Daytime running lights

I know that this is not a new topic, however, my running light on the driver's side finally bit the dust. My truck is a 2001 Silverado 2500HD. The lights have lasted since 2001! Now, the owners manual specifies the bulb as a 4157K. The dealer told me through a phone call, that the bulb has been changed to a 4114(K)?...........

I can't find one anywhere.....VIP, PEPBOYS, etc. I have seen various forums saying that other bulbs are usable, except that they won't last as long.

Is it best to buy direct from my dealer and get the OEM bulb? After all, 5 years on the bulbs is pretty good!

I just replaced the bulbs in my dads 2002 Yukon with the 4157K and i got the 4157K bulbs from O'Reillys

Just replaced mine in the 01 1500, 4157K?? , forget exactly, but they are amber instead of white. Looks good.

i ran amber drl's of the 4157 variety, and took them out. after about 6 months, the lamp housing was starting to fog. i guess they burn hotter than my stock 4114; do. just something to keep an eye on if you are running them.

I switched everthing to Silverstar's. They're an "off amber" color and really bright. I like them and they don't seem to have any adverse affects on the housing (so far)

i suppose if you could get something in there. i wiped off what i could with my finger. but i caught it early enough that there wasn't too much damage.

if anybody can find amber 4114 bulbs, let me know, as i love the look. i just don't like the fogged up housing...

I went to my dealership and purchased two 4114K's for $7.50. ($3.25 ea).

I figured since the originals lasted for 5 years, $7.50 was not really a bad deal!

Putting them in is a snap.

I've often wondered if there is some problem with the bulbs that GM uses. It seems like 1 out of 3 trucks that I see have one DRL out.

I replaced mine (02) about 4 months ago. They were Sylvania 4157 clear, but not the Long Life. I changed them with a 4157KALL (amber long life). In my previous vehicles, the Sylvania LL do last a long time. Sylvania does have the 4157K in clear long life as well.

What is the lngest lasting white or amber bulb I can use without fogging or, I've even heard of some melting of the housing. Using the manual recommended type, Ive had a buld last as little as a month. Is it the bulb or is it the electrical system on my 3500 Sierra Dually?

Is there an LED replacement?

I think I switched to 3157A (amber) in my 2002 when I had it. Same bulb as your turn signal right next to it. Never had a problem fogging up my lenses.
