Problems with work truck

While driving my work truck today, the security light came on in the cluster and remained luminated while driving, it would come on every time after I started the truck and stay solid. I am thinking it is related to the ignition switch/key. The key I use is a copy of the original which was long since thrown away. The ignition switch is worn out as I have to have the key turned on a certain side otherwise the switch will not turn. I also have to jiggle the key around a bit in the switch to get the switch to turn, has been like this ever since I had the truck. Please note that the other two trucks in the fleet, both Chevy Silverados also have the worn out ignition switch problems, my truck has 88,000 miles, one of the silverados has 69,000 and the other has over 100,000 miles. These trucks see alot of stop and gos, and are started on average about 10-12 times a day. When I got back to the shop, I had to move my truck around front after unloading some equipment. I went to start it and it would turn over and immediatly die, even if I had the foot on the gas, it wouldn't keep running, I started to think that it might be related to the Security light and security system of the truck. Later on I came back out to try to start it again and it fired right up with no problems. The truck did seem to have a more difficult time starting in warm weather today as well, Denver got into the 70s this afternoon. The fuel pressure regulator as well as fuel pump has already been replaced on this truck. Truck is a 2000 GMC Sierra, 2WD, with the 4.8L and about 88,000 semi-hard driven miles on her.

Had the day off from work today, will see how she handles tomorrow.. hopefully I won't get stranded.

ryan, my 2000 did this while under warrenty. i found the invoice, they changed the switch. mark

THe light hasn't come back on for the past few days so I might see if my boss will allow me to have it looked at the next time it is in for an oil change which should be sometime by the end of this month.
