5.7 Remanufactured engine help

1997 Suburban with 5.7 old engine ran great but cracked head when hose failed and overheated. Installed reman 5.7. New plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter. Engine starts fine cold but cranks very slow when warm. No codes read by small town GM dealer. Idle slightly rough, light hesitation and misfire(jolt) decelerating at highway speeds. Power not quite there but close. at 200 miles since install. Engine installer said motor is tight. Any suggestions on what might be going on here?

Thanks

First thing I would do is have a back pressure test done on the exhaust system. Cheap and easy, just to eliminate that possibility. Could also be cam timing. If the distributor is off it will set a code.

I appreciate your help ChevyTech007. Should I take it to the Chevy dealer for the backpressure check? Would backpressure explain hard start warm? The engine barely cranks over warm and I have a new 800 cca battery?

Any shop should be able to check back pressure. Dealer would be best but whatever :) I don't think that would cause your cranking problem. I would think either starter or timing on that. Only thing is that usually a timing problem will set a cam to crank correlation code.
