H3 radio in a 2003 Silverado?

I bought a 2006 Hummer H3 6 disc changer off ebay, took it to the dealer to have it reprogrammed to my VIN #, and they couldn't do it. I got the distinct impression that they just didn't want to bother with it, and simply told me it wouldn't work. Has anyone else dealt with this, is the dealer just blowing smoke, or am I really out of luck? Any help wpuld be greatly appreciated!

I was trying to do the same thing. My Dad is a Tech. at a B/P/C dealership in Mich. I asked him about this tonight, he said they do have to use a tech II to "marry" the VIN to the HU, as well as set the options for your vehicle (Bose or non-Bose, Sat, Nav, and the like), he said they do them all the time, and usually charge half an hour for it. I just bought a 6 disk from an 05 Tahoe on Ebay for the same purpose, I plan on talking to a local D/S to see if they will "marry" it for me.

It has to be a radio that's compatible in the vehicle you're trying to put it in. If it is, they use the Tech II to do a process called 'Re-learn VIN' on the radio. This assigns your VIN to the radio for theft purposes. Then they also have to program the vehicle's computer for an 'up-level' radio since yours didn't come from the factory with the CD6.

GM is bad about using radios that look identical to one from another model but are not interchangeable so your dealership may not have been lying to you.

When i got my Nav radio for my 04 silverado, i went to 7 dealerships with the instructions on how to do it, and finally one said they would "TRY"

so i wouldnt be suprised if they just dont want to do it.

The radio will not work in your truck. they have different class 2 data wires in the back. i know when you replace the radio in the H3 you can use the same class 2 interfaceses but you have to jump a few factory data wires before it will work right.
