Check Engine Light

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Its been a while since I have posted here but, I have a new problem. Sunday I filled my Av. up with gas and about 30 miles down the road the check engine light came on. I stopped and checked the gas cap and it was on correct. It has been about 3 days now and the light is still on. Anyone have any ideas about what it could be. I have also noticed that my truck shudders when going into second sometimes. I have almost 11k miles.

Thanks for any help.

Gas cap was good to check first.  Might want to think about a fuel filter as well.  I replaced mine the first time at 15,000, but others do them sooner.

Get this, the da@# light went out last night on the way to work. Go figure. I did fill up with gas at a different station so I had deduced that it was that. I bought gas at SAMS. Murphy oil. It is a new station too.  :D

EDZ,

Had exactly the same thing happen to me w/ about ~12K mi on her - of course as I was leaving on a long weekend trip!!!  :D

So, I turned around, limping for home (about 40 miles), and of course, by the time I got back, it had gone out, and it has never come on since - now ~44K mi.  Go figure!

I asked the dealer about it when it was in later for regular maintenance, and they said whatever it was, it didn't leave a code.  My understanding now is that this SES lite is just used for emissions issues, so who knows - maybe some crappy gas.

Glad it's OK now for you.

Even though the SES (Service Engine Soon) light went out, take advantage of your warranty. There will be a history code stored in the ECM which can retrieved by the right diag equip.

There may be a sensor lying down which can affect fuel economy/driveability later on.

The dang thing came on again tonight while coming home from eating. I have almost used up that tank of gas that was in there. I will fill up at my regular place when I run out of gas and see if that fixes it.

The only thing about taking advantage of my warranty is the dang wait at the dealership. If I thought I could take my truck up and get out in a couple of hours that would be great. But the last time I took my truck up it took all day long and I was there probably 8 hours and they would not give me a rental. :D
