wanna rebuild my 94 4.3L

So I'm getting my tranny rebuilt and thought of rebuilding or refreshing my motor next. Anything I should look out for or improve? I'm not looking to pop wheelies or do dougnuts, but I would like to get the good gas mileage and good acceleration from the lights. It already gets that now but I'm wonering if there's a company, kit or parts I should get, or just stick to GM parts.

 

I have a 94 silverado ext. cab, 2 wheel drive, 4.3L engine with 144k on it.

I would not go aftermarket. Get the heads done to factory specs. GM rod and main bearings and oil pump. New water pump and maybe radiator. All new AC/DELCO ignition components including distributor "innards."
