Alright, First off let me say that the site looks very informative and helpful...amazing I haven't happened across it before now. I have searched this but haven't found a definitive answer. Only some stuff about backpressure and loosing tq, but from my hot rodding I believe less tq higher in the range while slightly increasing hp is a VERY good thing. That aside, I have a 01 Z71 with 153K and still going strong(original owner) got this puppy my junior year(HS.) I have had a couple of dif. exhaust. Currently I am running straight pipes out of the cats(straight cats if you will.) I am,though, contemplating a new setup. The one in mind is cutting the cats and installing a single in dual out flowmaster. Hows that sound? Anyone with experience? Now herein lies the problem: I know not if there is a cat deleete pipe with sims on the market, or if no such pipe exists. If no can I just weld in a pipe and delete the code? But, if there is such a product a link would greatly help. All feedback, suggestions, and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading and keep up the good work!

Welcome to the Group. opsbear and myself are contemplating similar setups with our trucks. I've been looking at the flowmaster american thunder kit, and most recently the stainless magnaflow setup with dual pipes out the back. I really really like the distinct flowmaster tone. I had it on my 99 Silverado and it sounded sweet and it only had the 4.8 in it. Not sure if they have what your looking for but I am sure someone here can help you out with that. Let us know what you end up doing...and pics are always a good thing :happysad:

You won't lose TQ in the upper range. You will lose it down low where you need to launch that 5000 lbs shaped brick that we drive. And if your hurting TQ down low, your gonna hurt your mpg. IMO.

Why do you want to cut the cats out?

I didn't expect to lose tq in the ypper range, I don't even think it's unseful there, but I do expect with more efficency the peak tq will move up the range slightly. Well, that's been my experience, although; I have never dealt with anything other than LS1's and 4.6DOHC RSC's in that reguard. Decreacing tq below the curve while increasing peak hp has it's place. But! That's not my concern with my pickup. I just want the sound of a freer flowing exhaust. I do agree, however, it takes a lot to launch this pig.

I gotcha. I just asked because you said you don't care about losing TQ in the upper range, if you gain HP in the upper range. If I understood your original post.

So, does anyone know if a cat-delete pipe exists? Can you get o2simulators for these trucks? Or, will I just have to cut and weld and then turn off the code?

Appreciate the help

Oh, I thought this thread was about felines!

I know you can get O2 sims for these trucks. I'm not sure where to buy them, but I'm sure somebody does.

Would it be as useful to just turn off the code? Or, are their unwanted consequences(SP?) in doing so?
