How to wake up my 06

Got a great deal on an 06 Z71, but it has the 3.42 rear end, which is kind of sluggish off the line. Anyone tried a Superchip, or equivalent?

I have an '06 Crew Z71 5.3L. Sluggish off the line would be an understatement. What are you accomplishing w/ these programmers besides shiftpoints? I don't know much about them. A friend of mine wanted to get a programmer and split the cost. Can you do this or does it stay w/ the truck. Again, I don't know much about these. Thanks for the help.

The main route to performance of these devices is timing advance. This means that premium fuel will be necessary. It also means a small increase in fuel economy. The problem is that the pcm already is programmed for maximum advance and the knock sensor provides retard from that point.

How well this works is dependent on altitude and terrain.

I have read posts here that spoke of performance increases simply by switching to premium because the pcm is allowed to run higher advance settings. I would like to hear more about this from those of you that tried it.

At very low altitudes, I bet premium fuel can make a serious difference. When I drive from Phoenix to LA, much of the drive is sea level and below and there is a noticeable power increase and spark knock in non-knock sensor vehicles.

Do not expect a performance tune to make as much difference as a set of 4.10s.

The lesson here is don't buy an axle ratio below 3.73.

Is it possible to change the axle ratio after the fact? If so, how much would that run?

Changing the axle ratio is very common, all it takes is CASH! You can expect to pay $1000 or more for 4x4, $500-$800 for rear axle only...

This may be high in some areas, but not where I am.

I'm sure glad that I got the 5.3L and 373's. That and a custom tune and I have little complaints on performance.
