on my 4.3L ive been wanting to put a flowmaster muffler on for quite awhile now and i was wondering what pipe configuration was the best. should i run it out the stock location or run duals straight out the back? which would sound better? and yes i know people say 4.3L with pipes sound horrible but oh well i dont care.

As far as looks, duals will look better. As far as performance, I think a single pipe would be perfect. Although, Flowmasters really don't live up to their name. ;)

Of course, most of the time "duals" are just mufflers with dual outlets, not true dual exhaust.

Heya Josh,

Welcome to the forum!

I have a 1994 Silverado 4.3. I too was curious as to which exhaust set up to go with. I had a buddy with the exact same truck as mine with 40 series flows out the back and it looked very clean. Somewhat nice tone to it. The only time these engines sound different is at high RPMs. That's because these engines are exactly 3/4s of the 5.7L V8. I however went a different approach. I didn't want the bumper turning yellow from hot exhaust tips, and I hated the look of old dual exhaust that has one broken braket and one pipe hangs lower than the other.

I have a 2 chamber Magnaflow that exits right behind my cab.

The tone is excellant. There is a little cab drone, but it is definatly livable. Like the guys said, "dual" exhuast isn't really dual. This is one exit wiht two tips on the end of hte muffler. Keeps my chrome clean and looks and sounds great. Not to mention much cheaper.

PS - With Magnaflows, I noticed about a 2 mpg gain over a long trip on the highway. I get 21 mpg easy at about 75 mph.

i just like having a big exhaust pipe to look at haha. but on running it out the side would you get a resonated exhaust tip or just a regular?

I have a neighbor that has a King Ranch F250. He has a Magnaflow setup like your talking about, and its got a chrome tip. Looks pretty sharp. I'd probably go that route. I think that would ensure less wear on the tip over the long run. I'd definatly not go with a regular tip, cause eventually its gonna tear up and look crummy.

I put a flowmaster 40 series on my 4.3, single 3 in dual 2 1/2 dumped at the axle, drove it for about 200 miles and took it back and ran 2 1/2 straight out the back w/ 3in tips looks and sounds great now. When it was dumped It was driving me f....ing nuts.

yeah i have no want to dump it out underneath the truck im just gonna run it through the stock pipe and just put a tip on it... but the question is resonated or not?
